Mystery Ranch A7000 the works pack

Hi all,


I'm curious if anyone has any experience with this pack. How does it handle some weight and is it a decent load hauler? I can't seem to find too many reviews on it.

Never heard of that pack...

Most on here will agree that MR builds very tough packs. Meaning you would have no issues if you tossed it off a hill for some reason. I personally have not used an MR pack so I cannot say if that one or any other MR pack is good or not.

Do you have any pics of this pack? How did you hear about it? I've used several MR packs but not familiar with this one.

I don't have experience with that pack, but I can tell you all their hotshot style firefighter packs are the best on the market. All if stuff is too notch just $$$. That's the only reason I don't have one

Old school MR pack. It was available in both short (7000 cu-in) and tall (7400 cu-in) and was built around their modular Adjustable Leap Frame (which was available in men's or women's). The Leap Frame was (I believe) the first MR system to feature their now signature Lumbar Wrap. It's a solid system that never quite caught on. See below photo.

That pic didn't show up for me but thanks for the info. I stumbled upon one for sale and its at a price I could afford which is rare. I'm not sure if it will carry 80 lbs or not.

I have a 7400 ci Mystery Ranch BDSB that is very similar, except internal frame. The biggest downside for me, is the weight of the pack. Very well made and durable pack. Handles heavy loads well too.

Stumbled upon this thread when looking up info on my own "the works" pack. I have the "blues" bag, but it's the same suspension. I have been in contact with MR (GREAT customer service, btw) and they are sending me the manual....apparently hard to find. Daddie63, I'd encourage you to email them: they'll tell you everything you need to know.
They rated my bag + suspension at 50lb load. Obviously not enough for the backcountry hunting that I do, but it's still a solid set up.

If anyone has a line on one of the bigger bags (ie Alpacka or A7000)....I'd love to take it off your hands!

Get yourself a Kifaru or a new Exo Mountain. More comfortable and a lot lighter than MR.

Yup- happens all the time here- and seems to be more lately.

I swear some 15 year old could ask a ? here about his gear that he saved all his money to buy and is all excited to go hunting with it. And if it was say a $200 pack and an inexpensive spotter for example; and if he asked on here if it would work for his hunting trip- there are some here that would chime in with some comments about "wasting his money on those packs; get a Kifaru, Stone Glacier or a Swarovski spotter etc; "buy once, cry once"- blah blah blah.

What is the deal- is this just becoming a site for well heeled snobs? I have some nice gear myself, but I could see how some of these responses that folks get could be insulting. I know it is getting old to me.

Ditto. I also like how some people push X brand for a year telling everyone how great their pack is, posting in every pack thread that's the pack they should buy. Only to find out later they had fit issues and now run a different brand pack.

Stephen you make a good point. It gets exhausting at times. No doubt kifaru's are great packs.when I joined this site 2 years ago I thought guys were nuts for paying 800 bucks for a pack( still do at times). Now that I have one( thanks to a nice tax return) are they worth it? Maybe. For me it is but the general population of hunters I would say a pack like what is in the OP's original post are perfect and are in my opinion much better then hunting packs in the same price range (ie badlands, tenzing).

To the OP. That pack is gonna get it done, better question is are you going to? Take that 5-600 bucks you save and get gas, tag or whatever else to make your hunts better.
