My first Tikka

How does the front sight remove? Just tapped with a screw? I might order one but curious what everything looks like when the sights are removed
Drilled and tapped with two screws. First screw is readily visible, second is under the front sight dovetail (it drifts out real easy)

Thread appears to be 8-48 or M4x0.5mm. I haven’t been able to find any blanks to fill the holes

You may have joined the tikka cult.. However you missed the memo on a true RSS! Read up on scopes, rings, proper mounting, etc. You will thank me later. Spend your days at the range practicing. Not sighting in your rifle. Congrats on your new gun.
Thanks for the tip! I installed a Leupold picatinny rail and I'm using Vortex pro rings and a Viper HS 2.5-10x44 scope. I'm looking forward to sending some rounds through it. I hope it digs Federal Terminal Ascent 175 grain. I've got quite a few boxes of that ammo from my previous 30-06...

Thanks for all the Tikka love everyone! I'm looking forward to using it soon. My brother-in-law and I just got clearance from the wives to go bear hunting over Easter weekend (as long as we are back by Sunday morning), so I need to get it dialed ASAP! :)

That's what is shooting best out of my Tikka .30-06
That's good news! I'm interested to see how it groups the ammo I have. I've got some 180 grain remington core-lokt and Federal Power-Shok to get it on paper. I'm going to test...

-Terminal Ascent 175 grain
-Remington Premier Long Range Speer Impact 172 grain
-Hornady Precision Hunter ELD-X 178 grain
-Hornady Outfitter 180 grain

My other 308 rifle loves the Terminal Ascent ammo.

My brother’s Tikka 30-06 really likes the 178 ELDX. Haven’t tried any of the others.

Pay attention to the 178 Eldx. That’s what I load for my brother’s Tikka -06.

So I was looking at the metal bolt stops you can upgrade to, and it got me thinking… could a tikka 30-06 be turned into a 308 by changing the bolt stop to a short action version, and using a 308 magazine?

Sorry if this has already been covered somewhere else. I don’t really dig much into this. I’m just more curious.

Yes. Tikka’s are all the same action length. The various cartridges are accommodated through different bolt stops, mags, and bolt face sizes.

Since you didn't mention it - you'd need a 308 barrel and that's really all you'd NEED to turn a 30-06 into a 308. 308 might feed ok from 30-06 magazine and you'd just have a slightly longer bolt travel than necessary without swapping bolt stops.
