What we do know is that he can't just go running off to sell the guns tomorrow, regardless of what his intentions are, or says they are.

My advice is to take your time and not be in a hurry to do anything just yet, process everything else important going on at the moment first, as a small collector I can 100% guarantee you the market is real soft right now especially on nice firearms, it’s a buyers market, I would definitely sit on them for a bit and yes the easy button is consigning them to a reputable dealer when the time comes, with a good presence on Gunbroker to get real money, but now is not the time, it can change real fast, but I bet it will be a year or 2 at best.

I should have said he filled out the 4473 paperwork when buying them. I didn’t / don’t know if that would complicate things in selling or if I took them.
Nothing will be sold or dealt with anytime soon. Just trying to form a plan.
There was a will and mom is doing as best as she can.

I'm sorry for your loss, Tony.

It's very tough losing your Dad. Your executor (could be your Mom) will see you through it . FFL paperwork has nothing to do with it.

Dont know what part of WV your in, but I went through something similar a couple years ago, my dad passed out of no where, with no signs it was coming. While I didnt have to sell off guns or anyting like that, I know what your going through and if you need someone to talk to who has went through something similar please reach out to me.

I am good friends with someone who owns a sporting goods store that deals alot of guns and sells on gun broker if you need help with a FFL and such and moving the guns.

Private sales are and always have been legal (no background check required). It's also legal for a parent to give/gift you firearms, no paperwork update required. So unless you're going into an FFL to pawn/sale them, you aren't legally required to update/file paperwork. If you just want to sale them to friends family, go for it. Otherwise yes, the FFL will transfer them from/to.

Sorry to hear of the diagnosis, Parkinson's is the shits. There are DR's on here so they may chime in.
My dad tried everything available and thru his own stubbornness never really gave any of them a chance. This was 20 years ago and I'm sure a lot has changed. If he hasn't already, he will need to learn how to walk and eat differently so he can manage as the disease progresses. As my dad got weaker, we added grab handles around the house to help with mobility. Get him out and about; we tried to build him a 4x4 wheelchair so he could cruise the neighborhood and watch the construction going on but he declined that as well. Don't let him pull the "I don't want to be a burdon" bs, get him out, take him with you every chance you can.

I just went through this last year with my father. He was in NH and I'm in Montana.
obviously both areas are good with gun laws etc.. Basically what we did was once the paperwork started moving his widow and my brother zoom called me for about 3 hours and went through the firearms etc. Since I am on the west coast I didn't want or need any of his things and just wanted a few firearms to have and that was it. I went through the gun shop I use out here and the FFL transfer was super slick coming from NH. Once they got here, I did FFL transfer paperwork and they were mine to take and do whatever. Selling was easy as well. Once they are signed over to you, you can do what you like. Just make sure you check out the gun laws in Ohio. I'm sure where you are in WV it should be pretty easy on your end. Sorry for your loss.

when my pard died in Ohio i called some dealers and gun shops to sell his guns. [numerous] we listed them and i made an educated guess on value.

many low ball offers were received, but one offer was reasonable. i had him write his widow the check 10 days later.

i have a friend in Iowa that has been a year selling off his friends guns and reloading stuff to maximize the dollars.

As for the guns.
I don't know how the laws are in OH. But here in MO we don't have to transfer if they are used only on new purchase or a transfer.
I would think your mom can give you the guns and you can sell them where ever or how ever you wish. If its a transfer to an FFL the FFL will do all of the paperwork.
Depending on what they are I would think selling online would get you more cash.
