Mules, Horses, And Gimpy Elk Hunters

Had both my horse take off in hobbles 10 minutes before dark. Walked 4 miles before catching them. Now one always stays tied while the other is hobbled to graze.

Great trip. Good looking black mule

Fun thread to read and gather tips from. I've been researching pack animals a lot lately. You all ever seen burros packing elk meat/camp supplies while out in the field? Of course they cant haul as much as horses and mules but financially they sound much more affordable (diet, shoes etc.) If one was on a budget it may be a good way to go? Still weighing the pros and cons. Thoughts?

I did this before I upgraded to mules. I highly recommend it, the burros were awesome and much easier to deal with. I put a full elk on 2 burros, head and hide included, although I would recommend three if doing it in one trip.
