Mule Deer Rifle

I use a .300 RUM which may be a bit too much of a gun for mule deer especially in at closer range but its my elk rifle as well. I do have an old winchester .270 i will take out at times if i know im hunting in thicker areas.

I've killed a bunch with a browning a-bolt 300 win mag since that's what I use for elk and have a lot of confidence in it. I've killed two with an xbolt 270wsm but this year I'm switching to a semi-custom-kinda-budget-build lefty 6.5x284 (savage action, shilen barrel, boyds stock). More important than caliber and maker are the following: fits you well in hunting positions, light trigger with zero creep, and of a weight that you can shoot accurately (I'm not a good enough marksman for light rifles).

Id love to get a 7mm mag someday ona. Pre 64 model 70. I currently shoot a 7mm08 in a classic compact model 70 built 1998. Killed a ton of deer with that gun, gonna use it for elk this fall also

I havnt hunted mule deer for several years but when I did, I just used a 270 for many years the a 30-06 for a few years before I moved.

308 is a great round, I will be making my first trip to Idaho this year . I bought a Tikka t3x in 30-06, would have gone with a 308 but I have tons of 30-06 components . Tikka shoots 5 shots under 1 inch. weighs 7lbs with scope. you will be very happy with the 308.

I shoot either a 7mm08 or a 280AI. Wouldn't hesitate to shoot anything in the lower 48 with either. Don't forget, in the 1800s the 30-30 was considered a high powered round and they killed everything with it.

Have been using 300 Rum but got a creedmoor now, decided to go smaller for antelope and whitetail and ill use it for muleys to, ill resort to the ol mag for elk still!!

Doing some load development right now on the 6.5 Creedmoor, will either be shooting a 129 gr Accubond LR, 130 gr Accubond, 140 gr Accubond or 140 gr Gold Dot.

Lot of Accubond options haha.

Just got a tikka t3x in .308 a few months back. Plan to use it for elk and mule deer. Even with a scope, it is so lightweight...I’m looking forward to packing it around this season.
