its easy for some of us that live out west that can backpack throughout the year to test gear, it would def. be tough to be trying new gear on a hunt. when im on summer backpacking trips im often packing a 12 pack of tall cans, change of clothes, new gear to try etc
i pack very similar to you with a just in case mentality but im trying to learn to leave things at home.
i would drop the 100' rope, traverse shirt, stock up with fresh lithium batteries and ditch the spares, ditch the charger, ditch all but one pr gloves, ditch the flip top box, ditch the swing blade, ditch 3/4 of the ziplocs, ditch the zipties, ditch the flashlight, one fuel can, and pick a sleeping pad.
