I’m thinking about buying a charity auction drop camp/pack in-in the Bob Marshall for the Fall 2020 season. How does the out of state tag situation work in Montana for this. Is it OTC? Looks like an out of state OTC tag is $6-700? Thanks.

Draw is already done. You will need to see if there are surplus tags available. Look at the regs to make sure it’s not a special draw area. I would suggest spending a little extra and getting the combo deer elk tag if they are available. Rumor is surplus tags will be available next week but last year they weren’t available until June and went very fast

Well I lost the bid on the packer trip but now my mind is stuck on hiking in up there with a buddy for Fall 2020. Seems like 1) Rough Terrain 2) Low game density 3) Grizzlies.

Right up my alley.

The nice thing about hunting deer is you can get way the heck back there and if you're fit and strong then you can pack it all out relativity easily, unlike elk. You can be your own packer.

That’s why I was thinking. Deer or black bear. Of course it would take alot of discipline not to smoke an elk if I had the tag but more than 3-4 miles in would be near impossible in some of the area I have seen in photos. Already have a hunting buddy committed to go so I’m pretty stoked.

Yeah. I ran off almost all my buddies that I brought to the Frank Church. The effort to animals seen ratio is ridiculous (meaning you hike your butt off and don't see much). From everything I've heard the Bob is exactly the same. Amazing country. You can also backpack and fish all of this country in the summer and hunt where it's actually pretty good elsewhere. That's what I'm moving towards now.
