Mtngear chassis

Alright, I put the chassis to use this weekend @ Mountain Rifle Challenge, shot a little over 4 boxes of ammo through it in many positions including standing, sitting/prone/leaning/rested on tires and barbed wire, off a cliff, supported and unsupported. Ranges 25yds out to 680yds cross canyon, most all challenges for time. Some thoughts:
1) was able to source metal MDT mags and they worked sweet
2) feel pretty lucky that I was able to switch from old stock to new chassis, torque it down, and have no zero shift - bang on first shot, confirmed throughout the day
3) I scored quite well on the stage that included standing unsupported and seating unsupported, and I think it had to do with how light it is - almost 1.5lb lighter than my previous set up, made hand holding quite nice. I also just carried it in hand for almost 12 hours and it never felt heavy.
4) I am not a precision shooter by any means, but I can honestly say I felt no less ergonomic, stable or positionally challenged than I have with the previous carbon stock (which I really felt comfy with). Shots I used to make I still made, and shots I always struggle with (550+) I still struggled with. A few times I felt more stable with the pistol grip almost acting like an additional stabilizer on the ground/pack/etc.
5) the full length arca is so easy to use, I'm using an arca to spartan adapter but to be able to slide that thing from forward bipod to center tripod quick and easy was handy.
6) feels really well made. Survived sand, cactus, rock, tree, wire, etc and never felt flimsy or compromised.
7) could spot shots with 6mm Creedmoor as well as I could before
8) looks badass (to me at least)

I handled someone's Tikka/Rokstok Lite set up and it probably felt more ergonomically comfy, but still heavier. I really like this thing and am very excited to get more practice with it. One man's opinion, it's worth it.

Mines been to the range twice and will be at a match soon, I really think for a hunting chassis it cant be beat, I know I won't be returning to the XLX MG. In addition to MDT metal mags I've been using the Amend2 3 round 6.5 PRC mags and it feeds great.

How is it not having the adjustable check height? Do you find yourself wanting one?

I messed w and shot (<5 times) @abbrown 's stock. Fit and finish was good. He hadn't adjusted the mag catch yet as he was still sourcing mags, so some rattle, but I suspect that will be a nice feature when adjusted.

Obviously the stock is light.. That being said recoil wasn't bad in 6cm format. Reticle movement during shots was noticeably increased compared to my 6cm and spotting shots was more difficult from prone at 450 yards, but that setup weighs substantially more. The rifle shoulders well, no hunting for natural point of aim if that makes sense.

Full length arca is functionally nice, it prob won't feel great to hand carry for extended periods and will be cold to hang onto when temps drop.

Folding mechanism locks up solidly (easy to unlock) and I didn't notice any flex in the stock or rattle when shooting.

My usual grip puts my thumb in line with rear of receiver, this is not possible with this stock. There is a thumb rest on bolt side of the receiver, or you can wrap your thumb around the pistol grip.

Largest critic for me was that it is difficult to pinch the rear of the stock with off hand when shooting prone. The bottom stock rail doesn't have any flat sides to grip. If you don't shoot this way, or for other shooting positions it would be less noticeable.

The rear portion of the stock was tall enough that I didn't notice a need for cheek piece, if anything I would do a little foam cheek piece for feel. I'd likely wrap the carbon rear with vet wrap if it were mine as I don't love the feel of bare smooth carbon.

Not meant to come off as overly critical, just being to the point. This is a cool, well done example of a chassis stock , mostly I'm identifying and acknowledging what sacrifices are made compared to reg stocks.

The action mounts very solid in the chassis, I could not induce forend flex to touch barrel (at least without significant pressure).
