MT draw question - refunds?

I'm looking at trying to draw a MT limited elk permit but I never applied there before. My understanding is I have to first draw the big game or elk combo license, then draw the limited permit. If I don't draw the limited permit chances are I drew a general combo license? Does that net me a bonus point?

If I don't draw the permit and I don't want the combo license can I get a refund? Is that only for 80% of the fee? Seems like an expensive option to try for a limited permit to get a bonus point? I know I can apply just for the bonus point but why not try and win the lottery?

If you don't get the permit you will have a general combo license and you will get a bonus point for next year.

You will only get a refund for 80% of the cost of the tag, that is correct and yes, a very expensive way to get a bonus point.

Yes, you can buy just a point in the summer

It's ridiculous that the price to enter a "random" draw is so high. Basically you have to commit to hunting MT if you want to apply for a limited permit. Seems like a waste of general licenses that could go to hunters who actually want a general combo license. At least CO gives you the option and they have no limit on NR tags.

The general combos don't sell out so no one will be without a tag after the draw. The way MT does their bonus points, they are pretty useless unless you want to hunt the breaks.

Both bonus and preference points go on sale July first if you just want the point.
