The general area I’ll be elk hunting this September and October, everywhere I scouted during the summer was not accessible by my dually truck (had a different truck when scouting). I was thinking about just buying/renting an atv, a lot of the trails her atv legal anyway. My concern is theft at trailheads or wherever leave it in the woods. Anyone do this? Have any advice?

We’ve always parked em at the trailhead and never had any issues.

Theft is rare but does happen. Just get insurance and forget about it.
This. Insurance is huge and pretty cheap. When I've dealt with insurance for machines like this (mostly snowmobiles) they are really good about it and it's an easy process if something were to happen. If you just bring the key with you though you should be fine.
