My wife and I are talking of moving our family of 4 to Wyoming or Montana from Michigan. I am currently self-employed and I’m thinking of selling off my business and relocating. My Wife would be looking for a new job as well. Are there any recommendations anybody has for good towns our kids are big and into sports 4-H looking for more of a conservative feel with good church options.

Lots of great towns in both States. Assuming you're an outdoorsman since you're on this forum, there is good hunting opportunity in both states. I know that agriculture is pretty big in parts of Michigan. If you're more accustomed to farmlands and crops, Montana certainly has a little more of that in places than Wyoming generally speaking.

Ya my Dad’s a farmer, my wife and I are both about 40 I currently own a residential construction business. But I’m sick of missing being out west all year just for 2 weeks of excitement then done for a year.

Lived in Helena MT for a few years and loved it. I would recommend that.

Billings MT is a great town. I go there a few times a year and considering moving there every time. Might be my next stop when the kids are grown.

What’s Helena like? Good churches? I hear a lot of liberals moving out west so I would like to avoid that.
If you're looking for conservative church-going people, I think you could do a lot better than Helena. Generally speaking Helena is pretty moderate to left leaning politically. Billings, Kalispell or Great Falls might be a better fit. Or anywhere in northern or eastern Montana if you don't mind small town living.

We stayed in billings a few weeks ago seemed nice. Minus all the girls had nose rings lol

Do like we did. Spend 3 years going st least 1x per month and visiting towns and parts of the state. Go sit down in local restaurants and visit with people. You will find places where you fit in and then start looking at houses.
To pull roots make that big move you really need to spend time talking to the schools and getting to know some locals. Not just what you read online or what a realtor tells you.
We found positive and negative in every area we visited.

Ok thank you, we are ok with small town as long as we can find work.

Yeah not sure I would pull up roots cause it’s something you like. Would need a ton of buy in from wife/ kids. Are you leaving family? I guess it’s easier for me to say since I’m from Co, but it’s a major thing, RE is wildly expensive in the west these days… really pretty wild

I’d imagine lots of people going west. I can’t say much as I’m doing the same. I have always loved being out west, livestock and the lifestyle. Yes we would be leaving family. My wifes open to it. She’s closer with her family. I am not at all with mine. My big concern is uprooting my kids.

Yep that’s a big deal. I am from frontrange co, my kids are really young and I had to mentally wrestle with this question a bunch cause my wife wants to potentially move to her home ( Prescott, Az) it would be to the mountains but different kind than what I’m used to, and we would potentially take over her families ranch, probably a few years away if we do it, but it’s a big deal. How old are your kiddos?
