Does anyone have any experience with the Mountainsmith Mountain tipi? I was searching their website today and found it under the new for 2019 tab. It looks like it has a fly and then a bug net with a floor. If people have used it please let me know what configuration you have used it in and how it performed. I am mostly interested in using it as a floorless tent.

I am new to rokslide and this is my first post. I recently discovered this site and have been enjoying all of the great info on here. I am planning my first ever DIY archery elk hunt this year in MT. Thanks to anyone who responds!

You could get a SO silvertip for about the same price and it's way lighter, has more room and is probably better made. It doesn't come w/ a center pole but you can get an aluminum one for pretty cheap.

Curious what the weight is of just the tipi itself.

As far as the weight goes it says “for backpackers, just pack the fly and pole for a spacious sleep at less than 4 lbs”. When companies say something like that and don’t give an exact weight I assume 3 lbs 15 oz. I doubt MS would install the stove jack so you would have to find someone to do it custom or do it yourself. I have no idea what someone who does custom tent work would charge.

I wonder how much to have a stove jack installed?
I bought mine from TiGoat for $45 and sewed it in myself with a Speedy Stitcher. Cutting the holes is easy, width is the diameter of the pipe, and the height is ovalized to adjust for the angle of the tent wall vs the vertical pipe.

If you want to go cheaper, Harbor Freight has welding blankets really cheap, like less than $15. Check them out first, you may love it, you may hate it... I haven't used one, but have heard other people using them for DIY stove jacks...
