Mountain Warrior Vs. The Reckoning

Rob where in WY are you at? There's probably someone near you that has one or both bags. I've got a MW you can see anytime if you're in the Buffalo/Sheridan area.

True that. I'm in Cody and have the reckoning.

I'm in Laramie, I think either would be great bags but after considering the info in this post I'm just going to go ahead and order the Reckoning.

I think I've decided that I would be happen with any color except Coyote Brown. For walking around down here in these Alabama woods I do not want to have that much deer color brown on my back. I'm enjoying this thread because these are two of the packs I have narrowed down to myself. I have a DT2 right now but I think I'm leaning towards the Rekoning for this coming season.

That was my only concern with CB, which may lead me to go with the Kryptek but I'm not sure yet.

Not to derail this thread any further but I wonder if Kifaru will make any packs this year in the new first lite patterns. Maybe a cipher reckoning would be pretty sweet. I always thought fusion kind of had a slight purple look to it.

Had the same thoughts as I was contemplating upgrading my pack -- MW or Reckoning.

These things sold me on the Reckoning:

1. Three center compression straps;
2. Center zip for dumping/loading camp crap;
3. Hip belt pouches, lumbar pouches, and lid pouches create plenty of accessibility for small stuff;
4. Easy modification to carry the water bladder inside;
5. Internal organization is the only issue that doesn't have a quick fix but can be negotiated with usual stuff sacks, etc.

Please describe the water bladder mod.

i vote the MW
i love the panel loader
i used 22mag with side pockets, similar to the reckoning, i used just the straps on the MW to strap my tripod, poles and such and found no difference
i much prefer the MW as a day bag compared to the 22mag
i really like the acccesable rear pocket and panel loader to access the bag on the MW
put the quick to items in the big pocket and you really only need to loosen the lid to access.
all great packs, just depends on your taste and how you like to do things...

Dave at Native Textiles is going to cut a button-hole port just below where the hypalon sleeve for the frame attaches.

For the inside, I'm going to have him sew a 1/4 length or 1/2 length pouch of siltarp for a 3L bladder.

Would you throw a pic up when you get it done? I have been debating this same mod, trying to give the new system a chance.

maybe its just me, but Id much rather have an external water bladder set up like the reckoning has. I don't have that pack yet, but any pack with an internal water bladder pocket to me seems like a risk. If the bladder fails, your gear gets wet. If my sleeping bag is in there, and Im on way way into the back country...that's just a BAD start to a trip!! NOT trying to derail the original post, just the opposite in fact...im listing another reason why I personally like the reckoning as an option. My biggest concern with the reckoning (and a few of the other bags) is spotting scope protection in those pockets. If im carrying a load of meat, and my spotter is in the side pocket, AND the straps are all cinched down, that spotter is going to be right under those straps. Jordan mentioned putting the spotter in the lid under those circumstances, and I think that might be a good option when carrying a heavy load. Anyways, I still have my eyes on a reckoning as well. But this is a great topic, because I too have been wondering (MW or reckoning).

Water can get into any Kifaru pack, they are not waterproof. It's a good idea to put key items inside of a waterproof dry sack no matter where your water bladder is. A slip in water can have you and your pack/contents soaked, this is more likely to happen then a good quality bladder failing like an MSR dromedary.

Bladder between the fabric of the bag and the pack on the way in doesn't bother me. My pack is pretty light for several days.

But if I had a load in the bag -- just say 70 lbs -- and my bladder is between the bag and the pack, the bladder will create a fulcrum or an uneven surface between the fabric and the frame. I'm not positive, but that's my analysis of the issue.

A water bladder between the frame and bag works great. I use a low profile source bladder and there is no bulging or fulcrum done to the bag and it frees up room inside the bag.
