Mountain Vehicle Toyota or Jeep

Due to my recent vehicle issues, I was curious what vehicle you guys prefer....or would choose if you could?

I've owned a both Toyota and jeep, and they both have pros and cons!

Anyway, I've already made my decision, but would like to hear what you prefer, and why.

Love my Tacoma. Never owned a jeep so I can't compare.

I like my tacoma, with the rear locker i can go anywhere; can also sleep in the back if need be

i prefer a full size truck. 1/2 ton crew cab chevy silverado......... drives like a cadi. had a 3/4 ton duramax crew cab 6''lift, 35's. sold it due to the cost of it. must be the old man in me but im in favor of a more stock truck that rides nice and maybe even a canopy....... cant beat 4 full doors.

Only Jeep i would get is a Cherokee.

Solid front axle,bulletproof 4.0 HO inline motors and the space to haul gear. Only downside really is the unibody design but its not going to be an issue for a hunting rig.

Toyotas are solid rigs but i just prefer the ability to lock stuff inside if i have to. A canopy on a toyota would be a way around that. The IFS front suspension is the only true downside to the toyota vs the jeep imo.

You will have more room to haul gear with a pickup, but a jeep has a shorter wheel base, so they get around in tight spots better.

Toyota all the way 4runner 4 life here. Love my 4runner runs like a champ and handles the back roads with no issues. Never owned a Jeep but they have had a less then stellar history.

Yep! Snapped 2 front axle shafts off in 2 weeks (on my Tacoma)!

Sold my nice sedan and bought a used 4Runner for hunting last fall. I'm loving it.

I wouldn't choose either for myself as my only ride but that only because I need at least a full size half ton to tow the bass boat. But for strictly mountain hunting vehicle I'd go toyota Tacoma. I've seen those things go any and everywhere a jeep can go and will probably last 5 times as long. My dad has a buddy that is a jeep fanatic he has owned and rebuilt dozens of jeeps. He thinks there hasn't been a jeep made that is worth a chit since the early '70s and now he will only own '68 cj's. He has 4 of them lol

Have owned both. Toyota had better highway manners, pretty much a toss up off road. Jeep definitely more fun to drive though, a lot cheaper too.

Toyota had both and the jeep is just as much a gas hog with less room. Now running my second Tundra.

Jeeps are a constant repair bill based on the 4-5 my buddies own.

Tacomas aren't tanks, but seem to last a LOT longer without hiccups.

I'm going Tacoma this fall, and getting a camper shell for when I go on road trips (will leave off for daily driving as I think they are ugly)

I am a HUGE jeep fan. But I had a rubicon that I outfitted for moab and had plans Forret rubicon trail. But moved to Wyoming and sold it. A wrangler will go anywhere you point it. But not a good hunting vehicle in my opinion. UNLESS. it is just you and one other. Then take out back seat = plenty of storage. But hauling game sucks in it. So I would go with Cherokee as said above. Probably have 35 axles in it will be fine. Unibody not that big of deal for hunting as probably not flexing much. But for the yota see if you can get chrome alloy axles. I put them in jeep you will not break them.

If you had 33 or bigger tires that probably helped with breakage. Yotas known for week axles and the stress gets them. Same thing happened on my jeep. Broke outers after 2 years and put chrome alloy axles in. I was running 35s

Unless you get the upgraded Rubicon models those Jeep straight axles are no stronger than any IFS out there unfortunately. If you bind up the front end of any vehicle with the wheels turned, and lean on the skinny pedal, you're going to snap axles. No way around it.

Since it's your money and not mine, I vote 4 door Rubicon Wrangler

Edit: since you posted pics I vote for a D44 straight axle conversion in the one you have. That 3.4 is an awesome motor, especially supercharged. I like em so much, I stuffed one in my 84.
