If you like custom I sold the kimber in the post above to help fund a custom i'm currently having built. It'll be a lightweight, not a superlight 7mag. should end up around 6.25-6.5 pounds. rem700 long action with a lilja #3 fluted barrel sitting in a mcmillan game scout stock with edge fill.

You could build a short action 7saum or 7 sherman short on a rem short action footprint with a 22" tube and the manners ultralight stock MCS-UC (18oz) and get way under 6lbs. Richie at high tech customs in CO Springs would build you a hell of a rig for 3,200

If you can live with a few extra ounces, a Tikka T3x in 6.5 CM is advertised at 6.3lbs for well under $1k leaving a ton in your budget to buy the best scope money can buy. If you really wanted to spend your total budget on the rifle you could always buy a proof (or similar) carbon barrel, put it into new lighter stock (like a Wildcat) etc. etc.

Another Montana. This one in 7-08. Weight is 6# 0.7oz with VX2 2-7X33, Leupold base and rings and 4 rounds in mag.

I have another, set up exactly the same, in 257 Roberts. It weighs 6# 1.5 oz.
I bought both of them as NOS on internet auctions for $700 each.

Sorry for the crappy photo. 12y/o phone.

$2-4k is a pretty wide range, if you want to keep it at $2k it's hard to beat a Tikka donor then have a good barrel on it. If you shoot a caliber that runs well in 18-20" barrels you should be under 6# if the barrel runs the factory Tikka contour. A wildcat stock once you can get them imported again is a good match if you don't like the factory stock, just make sure you stick to the factory barrel contour otherwise it's a headache to carve out and relay the fiber. If you want to go closer to $4k just pick any one of the reputable builders and use the custom combo they suggest.

Why setting the bar so heavy and expensive, get a savage lightweight hunter and 2-7 leupold and you’ll be 6 pounds scoped and the rifle costs $500 or less

Did you dig some material out of the stock or do any other post weight savings? Just looking at manufacturer specs that should weigh over 6 lbs scoped. Nice setup!

Nice setup! Have you put that on a scale? I didn’t realize they where that light. I also didn’t realize they were the cheap!

Ya I took some material out of the stock and swapped out to a flip plop butt pad which was the biggest savings. Got it on sale at cabelas for dirt cheap at one point in the gear deals section on here

I have weighted it before but can do it again to verify. It was in the gear deals section on here at cabelas for sale for a while. This was several years ago when they first came out with the stainless creedmoor model
