Plan to get an ultra lightweight mountain rifle for sheep (maybe elk) hunting. budget 2k-4k. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Factory?
DIY build?
Custom?
Caliber?

For me, I would build a 25 Sherman Short Tactical mag, 22" barrel. It will shoot the 131 gr high BC bullets well over 3000 fps. Factory, I would build a 25-06. Both flat shooting for sheep, and enough for elk.

I would pay a smith to chamber it and thread the muzzle. Then, just screw it all together myself.

Legion action in Ti.
Proof CF barrel.
AG composite stock.
Trigger Tech primary.

I prefer custom build but will also consider factory rifles. Don't really have a preference for caliber... probably will pick 6.5 prc since it's popular

I’ve got about $2300 into a savage 110 ultralight and for a lightweight mtn rifle it’s gonna be tough to beat, this was with ABLR at 100 yds and yes that’s 3 shots with box ammo so Pretty impressed so far

It's pretty easy to build a sub 6lb rifle, mines 5.5 on a Tikka action.
I'd go with a Defiance anTi med length action
If you want a steel barrel go with a fluted #3 from Rock creek, Krieger, or one of the other quality options
If you must have a CF barrel then I'd say the proof stock is a good match, otherwise MPI out of Oregon makes a really high quality ultralight stock.
Triggertech special
Also consider a 6.5 saum, its a better case than the prc, and easier to find brass for at the moment
Go with a 7.5 twist barrel!

what scope did u mount on your savage?

I've posted this in a couple other threads but here's my idea and will come in at your budget. Call Shaen @ Shaen Rifles and he can build you exactly what your are looking for and guaranteed it will shoot:) He did one for me and is building a 2nd one that will be its twin. Both are:

Defiance Rebel actions with their sheep cut & integral recoil lug - 25 ozs.
Proof Research carbon stock 19 ozs.
Bartlein CF wrapped #4 contour barrel
TriggerTech
Hawkins Research bottom metal

Finished the rifles are 5 lbs 15 ozs so just under 6 lbs ;) With scope and Talley Lwt rings I'm right at 7 1/2 lbs with a perfect balance. If going with a Defiance AnTi action you could shave off another 5 ozs +/-. Both are 7MM-08s.

My friend, just started running a christensen arms ridglime which comes in a little high @ 6.3lb $1995 and loves it however they make the titanium version which is lighter, he has it in 28 nosler and its fantastic shooting rifle break really reduces kick

All of these are non custom and will easily fit your budget. They also all shoot very well and are all easily sub moa with factory ammo.

My Seekins havak element in 6.5 prc came in at 5lb 5.5 oz bare, 21 inch barrel. Shoots great, I preferred the shape of the stock to the more sporter style.
