The Zeiss V4 line is pretty solid. I have the 4-16x44 on my 270 WSM and have taken it out to 900+ at targets for fun and has tracked/held zero perfectly. Lightweight and seem to be built well. They are very affordable.

I agree. I replaced all my VX5HD’s with V4 4-16x50’s and am very happy with the swap at this price range.

Brother and I both have this scope on our finnlight.

Held zero though year 1. Reasonable compromise of magnification to weight.

Yep. Just replaced my Mark 5HD with one this evening. Dropped the weight of the rifle 5oz and you can definitely tell. Handles better without the heavier weight up top.

I bought a Leica Amplus 6 last fall.

I am REALLY impressed with it. The glass quality is easily on par with the Zeiss and Swarovski stuff in the same or slightly higher price range.

It's light, function's beautifully, and has really good reviews for reliability in Europe where they're far more common.

Definitely worth a look!

It really comes down to budget and expectations. Lighter is always better in a mountain rifle, but ruggedness is extremely important. Nothing liking hiking in several miles only to drop or bang your gun and wonder whether it kept its zero. I love NF durability, but they can he heavy. Swarovski probably has the best glass, but I'm not certain of their durability (I'm not saying they are or aren't, I just don't have enough experience to say either way. I have only had them on Whitetail guns that have only seen the inside of a blind/stand). My personal new favorite are the Steiner Predator 8 line if you want 2nd focal plane, and their H6XI line if you want FFP. They're a few oz lighter than NF NX8, but extremely rugged, and you get great German glass. It's also my favorite FFP scope for hunting, as the reticle design can be seen easily at low mag. Anyway, good luck with your purchase!

Take a look at Tract optics.. Most are made in Japan.. I think the low-end Response and the rimfire are Philippines.

But I''m very happy with the 3 that I have.
