I'm not the one trying to tell other people how they should hunt, not do I care how they go about it.

I would say you are the one who is touchy.

Mountain hunting is tough. Used to do more straight up the mountain and down the otherside . Getting older and trying "think" more about (I don't wanna say easiest ) more efficient way to walk from point A to point B. I will say the suck really begins when the meat is on your back

Lol, OK bud. I hope you enjoy your misery. I'll be enjoying my full freezers.

Clearly we disagree. It’s ok to disagree. It’d be pretty boring if we were all in lock step on every issue. I bet there are even things we agree on. 👍

While I agree to some extent, I don't think any of us can look down on others using legal ways to gain an advantage unless we are out there with a spear and a loin cloth. I am thinking the thousands of dollars worth of ultralight gear, optics, boots, rifles, compound bows etc. many of use is quite an advantage when you think about it. Pretty sure all the "old-timers" would consider us a bunch of wimps looking for "huge advantages".

Why are you using a tent? I thought real mountain hunters sleep out under the stars.
I don’t. I sleep naked in a creek just to make sure I stay tough. I just carry a tent to make sure my packboard is extra heavy and I set it up in case some wussy shows up on a 4 wheeler. I also make my elk tags by hand, don’t even use a printer. 👍

Game & fish gets a little weird about that last one.

Different strokes for different folks and life would be pretty boring if everyone did the same thing. Plus I'm quite happy that the mountains aren't crowded and I can easily leave the road warriors behind. I personally like DIY hunts deep into remote mountains above all other types of hunting and for me it's always via the boot leather express and a pack raft and on the rare occasion a super cub to get even further out. The cub flight before taking the boot leather express doesn't make it easier, just means I can hunt a place I otherwise wouldn't be able to. There is a saying that I think holds true especially for mountain hunting and that's 10% of hunters kill 90% of the game. The rest are just pretending or get lucky on occasion.

I aspire to go on a mountain hunt someday. Those mountains are a LOT different than the NC mountains I am familiar with.

I generally agree with OP's sentiments on this, but then I watch NZ hunting videos and I'm like "You know what, taking a giant cooler and a wall tent to the top of the mountain in an MD 500 looks pretty cool too..."

We hunt in an area with lots of ATV trails. Always funny to see the guys parking at the start of the trails and hiking in. We ride right by and wave lol. They are though and love hiking on the trails, I guess. We all hunt the same areas on foot. Why make it a harder walk in if there is an easier legal way? Whatever you all enjoy, go do it. Don’t bother me any. I will even give you a ride

Op, as long as you love your mountain hunts as much as I do doing them your way and me doing them my way all is good. We may be different but we love same thing, I hope we both keep doing it until we can’t do it anymore.

Makes perfect sense. You legally ride the ATV on ATV trails.

I don’t disagree with you , I like to do it the hard way but I feel like people should not be looked down at for doing it different.

For me, it’s not about looking down on anyone. It’s about preserving it the way it is. Lots of folks pushing to open things up to motor mechanized transport deeper into the mountains. Some folks earlier were being just a little hyperbolic with questions like “should we hike from our house?” or “why use a tent?”. It’s pretty easy to make wild comments; some people actually think that they are using good rhetoric in doing that 🤣. It’s tough right now… just how it is. Riding your wheeler to the trailhead then hiking in for miles is tough, especially the packing out part. Wrestling with one or more horses is tough. Pushing a bicycle uphill several miles to the place you start hiking is tough. I just can’t stand the thought of us allowing the whole nature of hunting in the mountains to change. There are hunts out there where a person can drive around all day. Nothing wrong with that either.

Since time began the current generation has lamented the fact that a new change is going to destroy everything. The "old" ways are the right way and the "new" way is 100% wrong.

Sounds like some members to be "changed" based upon how whiney they are.
