Not sure if right thread but I’ve been battling issues with notifications. Have followed the steps a dozen times with no success. I’m curious if the newest iPhone update is causing issue with the app. I don’t receive email or push notifications.

I had the same issues during season. I wouldn't get notifications but had photos once I opened the app. Cameras are not out right now so not sure on update

In Wyoming the use of cellular trail cameras is illegal for aiding in the taking of big game or trophy game. are there other states with the same or similar regulation?

yes, but it's more related to dates. If I remember right, Utah limits cell cams to June 30th, but non-cell to July 31? Utah guys?

I believe AZ has a ban on all cams?

But whatever a state decides, I'll comply. Idaho allows them right now so I use them in certain areas.

Can you use the cable locks with these? I use my cameras on public land and don’t like to lose my cameras to theft.

Yes, there's a hole that lets you lock the cam down, and prevent anyone from opening the door to drop the battaries.

Hey all, I have some questions regarding the Moultrie Edge 2(non-pro) cameras! I picked up a 2 pack of them, and set one up with 16 lithium batteries and one with 16 alkaline batteries.

I hunt blacktail in western WA, so my cameras are set up in pretty thick timber. I have no cell service with Verizon where I hunt(only 10 minutes from a town with 5g), but ATT service map shows that they have 4g/5g where I hunt at. One of my cameras(alkaline) reflects this as it connects quickly with “weak” signal, but the other one(lithium) really struggles.

Anyways, I left the cameras in the woods about a week ago after both showed being connected, and by the time I got home(about an hour later), “lithium” was disconnected, and “alkaline” has been on and off connected, but usually connected.
I said heck it, they have internal memory and will send me pictures as they’re able to.
“Alkaline” has off and on sent me pictures and always sends my daily test image at noon on the dot, but when I went in hunting yesterday, it showed no sign of triggering me walking in front of it, for about 10 minutes. I opened the front and it showed connected. It’s been 24 hours, and I’ve received on demand pictures I’ve asked it for but it never sent me the pictures of myself that it should have taken.
“Lithium” was completely dead after 7 days(there goes $30 in batteries) and even after I brought it home where I have 5g service and put new batteries in and fired it up, it never sent me any images from its “internal memory”.
Im looking for others advice or experience with the cameras’ actual internal memory capabilities and if that has worked for others. And any input on why my working camera never took any pictures of me in front of it. And am seeking any ideas of how to move forward. Perhaps the thick canopy of blacktail habitat is the match-maker for cell cams lol!

Odd the lithium didn't last as long...I have had batteries on my Edge 2 go dead pretty quick from brown marsh grass in the wind the AI thinks is deer and runs your pic count and battery dry quick. I think with the pro you can tell them to ignore certain zones but haven't messed with those.

I also had issues when I first put out my Edge 2 last fall. I was turning them on and off, clicking the connect button, and I think finally asking for on demand photos on the app is what synced them up to send photos. At first it said error and then it finally sent pics with me walking around and they have been fine since. Even after turning them off and moving around a few times, no problems since.

I did the On Demand command before I ever put them in the woods to confirm it worked, and even set them in the back yard to get pictures of my pets to confirm I liked the settings I had in place for them. I did the On Demand after bringing it home and getting fresh batteries in it and that worked immediately, but still nothing else came through. Super strange I may have to contact Moultrie thank you again!

do you have your filters set too filter out bucks? Don't ask me how I know this is possible lol

and do you have the schedule set to actually take pics while you're standing in front of cam? Also don't ask me how I know this is possible to flub up lol

let us know what you find out. Since our last comm, I've received hundreds of pics from multiple cams in a 150 mile circle around me, so I know they work

I’m going to pull the problem camera out this weekend and go put it on a trail that I know has excellent cell service and is a heavy used highway for does and see how it fares there, and then inch it into the buck habitat I want it in if that goes well

Ok man, but while you've got the camera in-hand, I'd take the time to give CS a call. They've been great about diagnosing (and replacing) cameras and then you're not losing days afield trying to figure out if your cam is working or not.

That’s probably a safer(and better lol) idea than wasted days like you said, I’m going to go that route. And I’m super glad their CS is good to work with from your experience! Thanks again for taking the time to reply Robby!

I realized one of my new Edge 2 cams was only sending check in photos. So seemed like it was working and there just wasn't deer there. I went to the field and there was a rub line right next to it. And an old SD camera nearby had almost 2000 photos of animals going in/out of corn...Customer service chat sent me directions to do a hard reset on the cam and see if that works. Got some photos yesterday of trees in the wind so hopefully that means its going to work now.

Below are the steps to perform a reset. Try the hard reset first and if that doesn't fix the issue, try the factory reset.

EDGE Series Hard Reset Instructions:
1. Power your camera off.
2. Remove the battery tray, then remove the batteries from it. Turn the camera on for 5 seconds, then off. (No lights will come on. This just resets the device.)
3. Reinstall a set of NEW batteries into the battery tray, insert the battery tray and turn the camera ON.


Factory Reset Instructions

1. Turn the device to the "Off" position.
2. Press and hold the "Connect" button while sliding the power switch to the "On" position. Do not let go of the connect button.
3. Continue holding the "connect" button until the LED lights begin to flash. Once they begin flashing, let go of the connect button.
4. The device's LEDs will flash in sync for 4 seconds. After 4 seconds, the LEDs flash rapidly 3 times to indicate the factory reset is complete.

Incredibly useful info, thank you for sharing!! I’ll try this out if CS doesn’t have another tip but sounds like you had the same problem as I am having.. at least you got to check the SD on another camera, mine had fresh rubs and big tracks all around it and never got a single picture, heartbreaker for sure

Update on my camera:
I pulled it from the woods, and when I got to it it didn’t show any indication of taking a picture of me.. that was a tough pill to swallow. I opened it up to see that it was flashing orange light trying to connect to internet, I shut it off and headed back to the truck.
Once back to the truck I turned it back on and it immediately connected with a green light and started taking pictures of me, and they were instantly viewable on my Moultrie app, so no need for a hard reset. But I then noticed while messing around with it that it would sometimes go into “connecting mode” and not take pictures, WTF I thought!

Long story short, I’ve came to the conclusion that if you have the camera set to “immediate” upload, and are in a spot with poor to fair connection(the problem I’m about to state doesn’t occur at my house when in strong 5g connection), it will sense motion, take images as it should, and then immediately try connecting to the internet to upload them. While in this upload phase, it does not continue to take pictures, and has about a 30 second to minute long lag until it will try to take pictures again. Alternatively, I’ve also found that when placed in a spot with mediocre cell service, it sometimes won’t take pictures at all if it is rapidly connecting/disconnecting from the internet as it seems all its processing power is going to this action rather than image taking.
I believe this is what led my camera to die in 7 days without taking a single image.

I have since changed my upload frequency to every 3 hours, the battery life is doing amazing, and I’ve gotten about 400 pictures of a doe and a possum that won’t leave my camera alone lol. I hope this helps someone else out there

Moral of the story: when in a poor cell service area, use any setting other than immediate upload frequency

Ok, on the Filtering, this is really the leap forward in Tcams to me in the last few years.

With Moultrie, the Filtering saves you so much time trying to find and organize images. Let's say I had a buck on a Tcam last year and another shows up the next year. I can filter by camera folder/date to compare the bucks easily. Is it the same one, or not? Either way, I'm not digging through hundreds (thousands) of images to compare.

You can also filter for a myriad of other data points like Time of Day, Day/Night, High Res/Low Res/Video/thumbnails, Moon Phase/ Temperature, Barometric Pressure/ and Self Ratings (scale of 1 to 5 stars)

Using the Moon Phase filter, I see one Tcam in a saddle that the vast majority of buck pics are under a dark moon! I'd never have known that without Filtering. You can go so far down the rabbit hole on this stuff, someone's gonna have to throw you a rope.

The next level of Filtering is Smart Tags. Smart Tags is the tech that automatically tags an image based on what the AI sees. For example, in the original Pro, and now Pro2, the camera is tagging the image according to what you've told it to send you, like "bucks, does, person…".

This saves battery because the camera will only send you those images, rather than everything it captures (in the pre-pro 1 & 2 Tcams--the original Edge--they send all the pics but the app does the Smart Tags, thats why the Pro 1 & 2 have better battery life).

This is another big advancement to me. Besides saving battery life, it's saving me time not having to look at all the images the cameras send. It's not a perfect technology and I do receive some images that I had not approved to send, but it does work. And because it's AI, you can help it learn by opening the image details and see if/what it applied a Smart Tag. Let's say a pic of a small buck is tagged as a doe, I can help the AI by selecting "no". Or if it's tagged correctly, I can even say "yes" improving it's accuracy.

My fav Smart Tag is "Mature Buck". It's pretty dang accurate on muleys with say an 18" spread and up.

Next post, I'll touch on Battery Life a bit more, although I've covered it pretty well. I'll look at some Tcam launch dates and the remaining battery life over some various Tcams. This will be for Alkaline only, because the Lithium reports 100% until the day they die. Moultrie is aware of this glitch. I'm testing a "work-around" and will report on it later.
