Most Reliable Cell Cam?

Hey guys. I am enjoying this thread. I have an out of state property that I am looking for a cell cam on. I have been using the tactacams and they are OK - would like to try something different possibly. I was going to buy the solar panel and battery pack from tactacam but sounds like some of you have tried and it's not worked that great?

I’ve had better luck with the Winghome brand from Amazon than the Tactacam solar panels. Herd 360 has some good options but are expensive.

You get what you pay for when it comes to most solar panels, The solar panels herd 360 sell are far superior in every manner compared to the junk that gets pedaled on Amazon.

Money isn't an problem then buy Reconyx. If you want something cheap and reliable but not upper tier get the Moultrie Pro Edge 2. Can find them for 50$ a piece if you know where to look. Thats super cheap for a cell cam.

I’ve run them all. None are perfect. I have settled in with Tactacam and run 12 year round.

The updated lithium battery pack and the new solar panel are improvement over the old ones.

If you live out of state or a ways away I would set the timer for 5 minutes or so so it doesn’t take 22 pic of same deer. Yes you will miss some but it saves battery.

The 12volt battery with solar panel can easily last a year on one camera and is worth the investment. Something like this.

How/how much is the data plan for the Moultrie? Unfortunately, lack of money has always been a problem for me - so no reconyx - lol

Has anyone tried the Browning defender? My non cell Browning cams have been the best cameras I've ever used...

do you feel you're missing a lot of photos with the tactacams? I ran 6 last year and 4 were OK and two had spotty operation. The biggest complaint I have heard lately is that they miss photos - not sure how any knows this unless they're running a non-cell cam on the same tree...

I’m currently using Blackgates with a 12v external battery. I feel like they’re as good as it gets for the money. If I were to change I’d go to the Wise Eyes with a 12v.

can I ask which other brands you have tried? Just curious what you are comparing these to. I have only used tactacam cell cams...

Never been a big problem. No.

What I’m saying is if you don’t set a delay timer it will keep taking pic of same deer over and over draining the battery.

All cameras miss sometimes. I haven’t found Tactacam any worse than any of other cell cameras I tried. And I like the app the best.

I'm currently running two gen 2 tacticams on my farm that is out of state. Someone already has talked bout how their solar and batteris aren't that good. The two are in pretty shaded areas and I'm luck I have family nearby who can change batteries for me.

I just recently purchased two WiseEyes DC-2 (1 low glow and 1 no glow) as a friend told me really good things about them. While looking at them I did come across Herd360 and like what he has, so I purchased one of his new solar panels that also has a built in battery back. Some might think it's expense, like someone already said, you get what you pay for. I also like how Mike has battery boxes you can purchase, along with different batteries which I might also purchase from him.

You can still check the card and some people say they are pics on the card that don’t get sent from cell sometimes. I’ve never looked at a card on a cell camera so I don’t know.

There are plenty of testers online that have compare multiple cell cameras against each other.

thanks for the response. I like their app too and the easiest thing would be to continue to run the tactacams (everything under the same app) - just was trying to see if there was something better for similar money...

I've had good luck with the Stealthcam Deceptor. I like that the Stealthcam grabs either Verizon or ATT cells which makes it more versatile in multiple locations. Takes great pics. The app is easy to use. 600 pics is $5 a month. Does go through batteries faster than I'd like and I'm looking into the solar option.

I’m just running the R4G-Lites right now as I don’t need the video aspect of the cameras but it would be nice to have the extended antenna.
I’ve had tactacams, spy points, and a tried the moultries briefly. My buddy runs some Spartans and stealths so I’m familiar with those also.

Blackgate has the best picture quality of all of them by a mile. Not even close. Also had better reception than my tactacams and a cheaper data plan than all of em. You do pay more for the camera up front but it’s so much cheaper than tactacams data plan it evens out faster than you think, especially if you have multiple cams.
I also watched my tactacam miss multiple animals in more than one instance. Kind of lost my faith in them when I saw that with my own eyes.
Tactacam does have the easiest app I’ve been apart of though.

Here’s a random picture quality for you. Just what I get sent, not even an HD or anything

Thanks. I'm looking at the data plans now. Which one are you using? Seems a little confusing compared to others and doesn't look like that big of savings?
