Most reliable and shootable 9mm semi auto pistols

As mentioned multiple time go rent a few at local range even if that means a little bit of a drive.

Glock, m&p, 365, and hellcat are probably what I consider. That being said you need to shoot whatever you choose a lot and your preference might change, and thats okay. Confidence is a big factor, what feels good does matter.

Going off on a small tangent,
Make sure to check your hardcast ammo for function with a couple boxes. And lastly my preference for holster is kydex, the less odds of something getting into the trigger guard the better.

I have to second the Wilson edc x9. I have owned and shot several polymer framed guns, most are good to go. But I shoot my x9 better than any 9 mm I have experienced. Multi-thousand rounds of all types through mine with zero failures, about 28 oz. If you find one lightly used for a decent price, you will never look back

@HighUintas

Not a real experienced handgun shooter here either, but have owned multiple Glocks & Kimber 1911’s in .40, .45 and 10mm.

Consolidated into 9mm’s in the last year. The most recent addition is a SIG P365 Legion.
It is the most shootable handgun I’ve ever fired. Compact enough. Fantastic grip. Easy to shoot accurately and recoil is very manageable.

Those 365s are great. I shot the tax ops and the fuse a few weeks ago and both were awesome.

I own a couple glocks, a Springfield xd, and an fn509 (22lr). My xd is the easiest to shoot, although my favorite pistol I’ve owned is an hk Usp.

Glock owner here. Buy a Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 in 9mm and never look back.

The only reason I own a Glock is that the G20 cycled more reliability than the M&P 2.0 in 10mm. 10mm being the lynch pin in that statement, the 9mm M&P runs flawlessly and is head and shoulders above anything from Glock, in my opinion.

I actually really like the M&Ps. I own and shoot mostly glocks since out of college the FBI was shooting the glock 23 and I was going through the application process with them at the time. But my wife and kids all carry the shields and I recently purchased a shield 2.0 in 40 to swap with my G43 for EDC. They are a solid platform.

@Formidilosus , any experience or observations with the Wilson grip module for the p365? This looks the most like the brouwer m1811 that I could find for p365.

This one for the p365 is also interesting in that it has a thumb shelf for the left hand, presumably to help minimize muzzle rise.

I have 2 365s in the Wilson modules and like them a lot, haven’t ran into any issues.

maybe a q for a different thread, I'll give er' a go here. If defensive pistols should have white lights on them for PID, should bear guns have weapon-mounted lights? Anecdotal evidence would suggest that you are just as likely to run into bears at night. Does a headlamp count?

We run tl-1 HLs and enclosed optics on our bear guns. I personally really like the ability to have 1,000 lumans instantly on hand while hiking out in the dark.

They’re pretty solid.

What you really want is a Mischief Machine….
You're killing me. Wood grip panels?! That may be an unavoidable purchase if I get a p365.

They have quite a few options. Which would be the best? Commander, omega, alpha Gen 3, or the backstrap/magwell attachment combo?

I am strongly biased. If you are looking for reliability and simplicity, get a striker fired 9mm from a European maker. My recommendation is an Austrian-made Glock (not US). There is a reason everybody copied them. It's the Toyota Camry of guns. There are better guns for certain uses, but all around reliability is going to be Glock.

HK VP 9mms are pretty good too if you have an inflexible personal constitution on adapting to grip angles.

Sig P365 is a piece of shit unfortunately. Too much time on modularity, too little time on the basics like not firing when dropped.

One more thing---US made is not a good thing in this category.

You have any sources for those dropped 365s ? Think you have that confused with the 320.

Nobody is claiming widespread accidental firing yet. But the P320 being an absolute clown show does not immunize the P365 from also having an poor design. Relying entirely on spring weight? Good lord.

When you are designing for safety, you design for abnormal and the worst conditions, not ideal conditions.
