I killed alot with the 145lrx moving fast from a 280ai and was pleased with that one. I recently put together a shorter barrel 284win, we killed two deer with it this fall one with the 131hammer hunter and one with the 162eldm, still collecting thoughts on those.

The 145gr LRX is bad medicine being launched over 3400 fps!💥🩸💥🩸

175 ELD-X is what I have killed the most with (bear, deer, elk, sheep, and mtn goat), but I've also had good results with Accubonds, Partitions, and Hammers.

Given their price, availability, and performance, I'll keep shooting the ELD-X until I see a reason to change.

Are you shooting the 175 from your 7 SAUM? Is it a short action?

Do you do your own butchering? I have a VERY hard time believing you legitimately lost complete shoulders, esp. on an elk. There may have been bloody fluid worked up between muscle groups up/down the shoulder but when you separate out the muscles that stuff just wipes off. An elk shoulder is a big surface and extremely hard to believe the actual meat on the entire shoulder was bloodshot. If you used meat processor who just tossed them in the interest of saving time that is a different story, the meat wasn't all a loss the person just didn't want to take the time to clean up the situation.
I butchered it myself.

The amount of bloodshot was insane. I found bits of lead and copper jacket in most of the blood shot meat tissue.

Drama free 160 Accubond or Partition. If Nosler would have simply added a boat tail to the Partition I’d still be shooting them. They lack any drama - simply kill things with boring regularity up close or far away with a predictable moderate-size hole.

Many of the guys that swear up and down about the importance of reliability in the very next breath seem to be flip flopping on bullets, or comparing autopsy photos to convince each other of some form of drama. When my serious trophy hunting friends are together we have never felt the need to talk much about bullets for our main big game rifles. Lol
175 grn partition. Wife's 7mm RM. Bison, mountain goat, elk, deer, pronghorn, and, and, and... 100% agree @TaperPin, Accubond going forward for better BC. I am the quintessential old dog and new tricks: ain't broke, ain't fixin'.

When you said shoulder did you mean the entire quarter or just the upper part with the scapula? I had in my head you meant the whole quarter and find it extremely hard to believe an entire elk quarter was damaged from tip of the scapula down to the shank, its just a big area with distinct muscle groups including bones (where undamaged) in the path of fragments. If you just meant the scapula portion that I can see.

162 ELDX from Hornady Precision Hunter ammo in my Kimber 280AI has worked well for mule deer and antelope.

I've been considering the 162 ELDM for my 280ai. What was your closest/furthest kills with the ELDX? How was the damage? I've read a lot that the ELDX is extremely violent at close range and the ELDM compared to the ELDM.

Closest harvest was bedded mule deer at 75 yards - one shot DRT. Farthest 350ish - another mule deer, Texas Heart Shot - DRT - went from right hip to front chest and lodged against front hide. In my experience, the front half of ELDX expands/fragments and the base drives through with deep penetration. If I recover the projectile, it looks like a coke can with front half gone but the base penetrating deep. It is not "bonded" but it has an interlock ring or such.

Thanks. My 280ai very much dislikes the factory Precision Hunter stuff. I have a small handful of the loose bullets I'll have to work up a load for.

175 Berger elite hunter has worked great for me the past two deer seasons, 200-300 yard shots. Haven’t had one run further than 25 yards.
