For those looking for “affordable” Turkey loads shooting TSS since the price has gone up, Buds gun shop has 12ga 3” Hevi-18 for $55 a box. Most other places I’ve checked are $70-85. Hevi shot is also running a rebate currently for $7 back on every box you buy *see details on their website*.
With the price increase of TSS I bought enough at that price to last me at least 10 years.
Hope this helps someone!

Over $10/ shell? Are you guys crazy?

Holy moly, I must be crazy shooting $1 shells! I really could care less what people spend but that's straight out nutz to me!

Pay attention, Rokslide bunch spends a lot of money. Take a look at the Bourbon thread , that one kills me. I say spend it if you got it and you’re not taking food out of your kids mouths. Just shoot a few rounds of TSS a year. Worth it to me… Joe

I agree, it is wild. I’ve been killing birds for 23 years with lead but there is no denying the obvious advantages of TSS over lead.

The way I justify it in my mind is I hunt 2 states each year, both with a 1 bird limit. I have 6 & 7 year old step daughters in softball & a 1 month old son. Momma allows me to hunt when I please but I know it’s taxing on her to hold down the house while I’m gone. If an extra $20 in shells every season will get me home sooner & allow more free weekends outdoors with my kids to take them fishing or to ball games instead of selfishly spending time hunting, I will pay it every time.
Obviously the name of the game is to get them close but now I don’t have to worry if that stubborn bird is hung up at 45 and if my shot is ethical & clean with lead because a properly choked TSS is more than capable at that range.

We have all been trained to be great consumers. We get that warm fuzzy feeling knowing we have bought the most expensive item in a category. TSS, bows, golf clubs or whatever. The only place you see a difference in performance is in the marketing material. On the other hand it's your money spend it however you want.

I wasn't the biggest believer in TSS until I saw it in action this past duck season. Absolutely incredible performance in the duck blind! The group I was guiding shot 2 3/4 8 TSS like it was free.......
Its really quite impressive how effective the TSS is. For waterfowl, I would have a hard time paying for that many shells. But for Turkeys, one box of 5 can last me a couple years. Seems a 20 gauge TSS with 7/9 shot does better than the 3.5" 12 gauge with any other type of shot.

I think a #9 tungsten is the same weight of a #4 lead. Then there is the benefit of how many more shot are in the shell.

I’d somewhat agree to some of that but TSS is very noticeably a better performer than lead/steel/bismuth and it’s not even close.

That is just straight up incorrect.

It may not be worth the increase in cost, but it definitely isn’t the same performance. Wether it be fly rods, bows, ammo etc. Is there diminishing returns? Absolutely.

If it is needed, (birds not decoying well) it is incredible! I always have some in the ammo bag as it's needed usualy 2-3 days of the year.
