That is absolutely awful . Sounds like the victim just had a chance encounter with the guy, and invited him for a friendly beer. Then the guy killed him.. I guess be careful who you invite into your camp.

Springer said detectives were led to Abbey from a DNA match with a sample taken from a beer can in Kjersem's tent

I wonder why/how they had the murderer's DNA in the first place.

Man, the universe works in mysterious ways. Sometimes folks have chance encounters with evil people, which end up in their deaths. I used to struggle with the "why" behind this phenomenon. I have since come to the conclusion that this question is irrelevant. Tragic end to a guy who appears to just have camped in the wrong place at the wrong time and had contact with the wrong guy. Sad for the victim's family, for sure.

He was a felon.....he was already in custody for parole violation, per reports.. They matched him and then just went to jail to interrogate him. If felon of previous types of crime, particularly violent, they end up in database

His DNA was likely already on file from other crimes.

Sorry, not inviting a dude who looks like that into my camp. He has that fresh out of the joint look.

You can't be too nice and trusting these days, you just end up being a victim, too many weirdos roaming around who should be locked up.

Terrible that the victim was such a nice guy and lost his life because of it.

Most likely. That the report didn't mention priors made me suspicious.

I believe if you do the "Ancestry" thing that's given to LE
Probably blood donors.

I don't know how else.
