Montana youth draw

I have a few questions that I was hoping someone on here would maybe know an answer to, I have emailed Montana fish and game , and have called several times with no clear answer.

My son is 9, will be 10 in a few months. I am trying to put him in to the Montana draw with no luck. The state website says that anyone 10 and older can hunt for two years as an apprentice, before they are required to get hunters safety. However my son already has his hunters safety.

I made him a hunters profile on Montana’s website and can not put in for any hunting licenses for him. I am guessing that he would need to be an apprentice hunter for 2 years? How would that work? If I draw do I then have to apply for an apprentice tag for him? Really confused on how this all works, and Montana has not been any help so far. Any advice would be great

Based on that, I would guess that if a NR wanted to bring an apprentice hunter with them, the apprentice would need to hunt on a B tag

He's not eligible for the draw as an apprentice. And although he's taken hunter safety, MT is 12 years old to "hunt" as an individual.

Hopefully that answers your question....to your point, I'm not really understanding how a non-res apprentice could get a big game tag at all since they'd have to draw.....? Perhaps the language on the site is to include all upland, waterfowl, etc.

If there are OTC B tags, I suppose that'd be available to an apprentice.

So he can only hunt OTC tags, no drawings allowed. Makes sense.
