My dad and I are planning on doing this hunt in two years. I've read everything I can find on the internet about these hunts and am aware that the success is low and mountains are big! We still want to take 2-3 weeks and go give it all we have, with a sheep tag in hand and in some of Montana's finest, how could you consider it UNsuccessful? Anyway, just looking for advice about units, strategy, etc, any input/advice will be appreciated. Feel free to pm me if you don't want to put it on here. Thanks!

Congrats! I have been planning the same trip for the same time. I am hoping to do it in two years as well. If you haven't already take the time to read grey thortons story in the wild sheep foundation magazine. He killed a great ram last year. If you can't find the article I am sure I still have my copy.

You have probably seen it - the "where to drop the hammer...." thread on here (first page in sheep). That's the most recent chatter on the unlimited units right now.

I am going to be there this fall. The way I see it, in MT at least, a chance to hunt sheep is a success. The interesting management of late concerning the disease and die offs in MT sheep populations makes me wonder if waiting to draw might mean never going.

I somehow I missed that thread mt100gr! Thanks for the heads up on that. Those are our thoughts exactly, I'd rather try than never get to try!

Wyobow, I'm not a member (that's going to change immediately!) Of the sheep foundation, any tips on where I could find a copy of that issue?

Elkmasterwyo, once you join up with WSF just give them a call, I'm sure they'll send you a copy. They have sent me back issues in the past which were much appreciated.

I could email you a scanned copy, too. Just need a.chance.to link up a few devices. It's the least I could do, a fellow Rokslider did the same for me.

Pm me your email if you want to go that route.

Agreed with the above mentioned. My mother in law works for the sheep foundation and I do have my copy hanging around the house. Join the sheep foundation as the quarterly magazine is definitely worth it. The less than one club is awesome too!

I've been considering giving it a try myself. I live close enough that a few scouting trips over the next couple years are possible.
Figure I might as well give it a shot while I have the chance

Thinking about this hunt in a few years. Any chance someone with a scanned copy of that article could get it to me?

Much appreciated.

A buddy and I planned a trip to the unlimited this year but some things changed and we ended up in Alaska and it was planned for next year.......but then he booked a Dall hunt for next year so I guess its off for another year. One of these days......Maybe it'll happen for us!

Not a lot of info out there but some of its good. Picking a place to start is the hardest part.

Anyone doing one this year?

Here's a recap of the first three days of the season. Pretty socked in. The day before the opener was beautiful! unlimited visibility. once the rain started, and with snow forecast for the valleys 4500 feet lower, the trailhead was busy with hunters leaving. All hunting districts are currently still open and hopefully will remain so a bit longer so I can return.
