Ours were increased two years prior to that. Maybe Wyoming accurately articulated what the fee increase would be used for and their residents agreed that was money well spent. Same could easily happen again in Montana; like I said earlier it would have to be seen as something that was a tangible benefit, not simply "we just need more money".

Utah increased their resident license and tag prices a few years back. I dont remember there being much resistance from residents.

The reasoning being

A resident threatening to extirpate wild game in retaliation if res tags go to $100
If you think that I'm lobbying for people killing more game animals in retaliation for raising license fees, you're huffing diesel exhaust...

Let me give you a little more background on that comment. In the early 2000's I worked at Walmart while in college and one of my duties was to help at the sporting goods counter during peak times. I sold a ton of licenses to residents and it was at a time when our tags went up something like $2 or $4 from the previous year. Almost every person I sold a tag to said the same thing about, "guess we won't be letting anything walk away this year." Not my sentiments but those of the general public I sold tags to. I'm not going to change the way I conduct my business, but this isn't Texas and people don't like change up here.

Same.

99% of the actions that get complained about (pressure, crowding, lacking ethics and etiquette, ruining other people's hunts, road hunting, trespassing, poaching, etc. etc. +++) are a direct result of the fact that hunting and wildlife in general doesn't hold value to many residents because they don't have to invest anything into the process.

When your elk tag costs the same as your taco bell order you can't be surprised when people don't take it seriously.
99%? really?

So what if some people want to lawfully hunt without taking it seriously? Not everyone has to be immersed in it like you and me.

Are you sure that increasing resident costs will decrease poaching?

This is all a whole lot easier when you live in a state like WA where licenses are cheap, but nobody wants to come hunt there because the WDFW has ran the herds into the ground:ROFLMAO:

Good context. Lets be honest - Those dudes are just talking shit or weren't going to let stuff walk anyway. :ROFLMAO:

The same thing is taking place in Wyoming right now. See the discussion here.

Very similar but WY residents would actually have skin in the game. Their application fee would increase to $20, same as MT residents pay for the elk tag. Their R elk tags cost $57. Although they can get good tags OTC without having to apply..

Also, Wyoming actually manages it's game to some degree rather than the vast majority of the state being open to uncapped hunting Sept-Nov.

Texas doesnt even make Non residents have a license to apply to public draw hunts… it’s $3-10 depending on species(same as Residents) oh and no cape on NR %. Might leave Texas out of this, Texas doesn’t need to rape NR’s on BS Hunting license to match P&R funds. They have over a Million hunters

And how much public hunting does Texas have? Their entire wildlife management is privatized. You don't have to pay people to hunt here.

Couple million acres with costal flats

It’s not entirely privatized but thanks for playing, but how much is an elk tag and points in MO?
