Montana Proposed bill to raise Non resident base hunting fees over 500%

Why are you blaming the residents??? The residents hunters didn't introduce the bill but at the end of the day it works the same in Montana as it does everywhere else. Montana doesn't owe nonresidents any tags for the hunting in the state and no one is forced to hunt outside of their own state.
Eventually NR’s will stop applying and stop hunting Montana, I’m sure that sounds great to you, until you get the liberal surge that eventually takes over you governing bodies, and you become CO 2.0, then you are going to wish you had the NR support, but unfortunately NR don’t care about your new Anti Hunting legislation issues because it doesnt effect them, or their kids

This thread really has it all.

A resident proposing $382 res tags

A resident threatening to extirpate wild game in retaliation if res tags go to $100

Non-resident inviting another non-resident to move to Montana

Residents complaining about people moving to Montana

Residents complaining about the possibility of tag prices going up

Residents denying that others have complained about the possibility of tag prices going up

People who haven't read the whole thread accusing others of not reading the whole thread.

I love it here.

ETA: a resident complaining that this list wasn't negative enough towards non-residents.

a non-resident showing that they know how to log out, but not actually doing it

It just keeps giving.

It's pretty much the Rokslide Bingo Card.

At least Wyoming gets to sit this one out.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I firmly believe everything is better behind a pay wall. Acknowledging completely that giving more money to an inefficient, ineffective government entity is not money well spent, I believe that hunt quality would improve for those still willing to pay. I'm completely in support of increased fees for residents and non-residents.

Same.

99% of the actions that get complained about (pressure, crowding, lacking ethics and etiquette, ruining other people's hunts, road hunting, trespassing, poaching, etc. etc. +++) are a direct result of the fact that hunting and wildlife in general doesn't hold value to many residents because they don't have to invest anything into the process.

When your elk tag costs the same as your taco bell order you can't be surprised when people don't take it seriously.

You must be in the wrong thread, I don’t see any residents bitching about the cost of our licenses.

Plenty of bitching going on from nonresidents about the price of our licenses though :ROFLMAO:
Go to a public FWP get together and suggest doubling resident fees or get on a Licensing CAC and you will hear plenty of bitching.

Here add this one to your list.

A nonresident bitching that another nonresident is not bitching about a state raising their prices for nonresidents.

Why would I log out? I am not the one getting butthurt because people dont agree with me.

Wouldn’t that be the reaction in any state though?

Good point. Probably, regardless of how cheap they are.

How did the rest of the west manage to charge their residents real money to fund their wildlife agencies though? I imagine they charged prices like MT in the 70s too but they must have realized that $20 doesn't get a guy very far a couple decades ago.

If you take a step back and evaluate yourself you would see that you are very much coming across as the one who is "butthurt" (and your reading comprehension is a little iffy if you think I ever complained about cost. I did speak on what I personally spend, but I was commenting on MT & CO residents being whiny little babies). Why you're sad and angry is your own business but it's pretty obvious that something is wrong.

Just finished a podcast, think it would be good for all to listen to it. I know it will make some or all mad but has a good point. Hunt Talk episode 11.6.23. We all enjoy the same thing, we are all right and we are all wrong, but we should be shooting for the same outcome, keep hunting alive and available for our kids and our neighbors kids. Without NR showing interest in western states hunting we will be a dying breed.

100% fact. Everybody wants to be the only one hunting but can't comprehend the fact that if you were the only one trying to hunt, you wouldn't be allowed to hunt period.

This is a team effort and everybody has to suck it up and stop trying to get rid of other hunters.

The problem is that most people don’t have the same mindset as those of us on this site. I’d like to think we on here are better stewards of this resource and are willing to contribute more but to a lot of people it isn’t an important aspect of life they are willing to contribute more toward. Especially when it gets harder just to get by with the inflation of everything else.
I think most of the RS members would spend more and hope it goes to the right place but regardless of what state we reside in, I bet we are the minority.

Feel free to PM me because I would actually love to hear the mental gymnastics would have to use to even come remotely close to my three responses being considered as me being butthurt, sad and/or angry.

Yep and keeping hunting alive starts with making it accessible to the everyman in their state of residence. I'll fight for that. I cheer on states like IA that have stood up financial interests trying to sell out there whitetails to protect a resource for their residents. MT got the affordable/accessible for the resident aspect down pretty well, they are just selling out to commercial interests and the wealthier NR to pay for it and are failing at the protecting the resource part. Tough balance, lots of people going to be unhappy no matter what you do.

I dont disagree. However, WY resident licenses increased in 2018 and I dont recall hearing a peep?
