Montana crazies, do they have grizzlies?

According to the guy at FWP I called last year there are grizzly in every Montana mountain range, some without confirmed sightings and low Density but they all over.

I know the question was on Grizz, but spent a week in there last September Mountain Goat hunting, and there were a LOT of black bears. Saw them every day, and crazily way up high at goat elevations. As others noted, no grizz sightings, but the other boo boos were everywhere we looked.

Anything is possible, i hunted an area for deer a couple of years ago in the desert. Was told there wasn’t an elk population by the biologist and that they wanted to keep it that way for the deers sake. First animal I saw when I got up on the mountain and setup my spotter was a cow elk. A few days later on the opposite side of the unit I saw a small bull. Just because there isn’t an established population documented doesn’t mean a whole lot.

Yes they are there. On Onx you will see a right of way access on the East side. Grizzlies are seen there from time to time. One was reported in the Breaks last year too.

Yes. Wouldn't be surprised to run into a Grizz in literally any mountain range or any broken country those ranges drain into.

There's a big difference in hunting where they could be, and hunting where they are.

Yeah, they do get spotted and show up occassionally on trail cams in the Bitterroot, Breaks, Crazies, Snowies, etc.

But then you go to a place like the Swan Valley or Tom Miner, and you literally see tracks every single day. That's when worrying about them really makes sense.

Pretty common for blackies to move up later in the year. Once the berries freeze up top the sugar content goes through the roof, and they prefer to den high enough that they won't get rained on. Was always told "bears n blue grouse are the only critters that migrate up"

Yeah I talked with the outfitter I’ll be with after draw results came out letting him know what tag I drew. He said get a bear tag because there are a lot of black bears. But wouldn’t worry about grizzly

This is very true. Helmville, Ovando, Lincoln, Rocky Mtn Front you will be seeing grizzlies or sign pretty regularly. These areas have lots of grizzlies, and most any area in Region 1,2, (north of 90) or the western part of 4.
