Montana 310-45

I "drew" the Montana 310-45 Elk permit for this fall. From what I've read, it looks like lots of wolves, grizzlies, and other hunters. Has anyone ever hunted this unit? Just wanted to get some thoughts.....

did you draw it on accident? I am not trying to be mean... but wouldn't you do research BEFORE you draw a tag and lose your points?

It's a guarantee tag, so no harm. I looked and researched that unit and decided not to do. To me it seems like MOST of the draw units in Montana are for rebuilding the unit, not because it offers tremendous hunting. Especially in Region 3. In my research, some of the best units are General. BUT Montana is not very good about collecting stats from all hunters and from what I understand is strictly just a sampling that is projected.

I think there is some issues with that unit, but there is certainly elk to be found. We are going to try units near there.

What's a guaranteed tag? If you don't get an elk you get your points back?

It was my second choice and an unlimited draw, so there were no points lost.
