Good morning all,

Has anyone in here used both the barnes 85tsx and the 80ttsx with a 243 or similar 6mm cartridge on game?

Was there a big difference is performance between two.

My shoots are less than 100yds so no real need for long range.

A few years ago my (at the time) 11 year old daughter dropped a buck with an 80 TTSX from a .243 with one shot at 225yds. Worked flawlessly.

The 80s have a cult following with 243 owners. I have a decent enough load with them out of my 6 creed just for S and Gs that I'm going to test.

With a cartridge like that, low recoil and very good shootability, I see no reason not to use a cup and core. Put it where you want it and watch deer drop.

I dont plan on using the TTSXs for more than one deer. I wouldnt be upset if I was forced to use them though. I just think you have better options out there for stopping power. I'd much rather prefer some meat damage over having an animal not fall down within sight.

The 80s are the way to go if you go TTSX. I’ve had good performance with them on blacktail and bears with my .243. A mid to mid/high shoulder shot drops them in their tracks.

I like them in 243 , good terminal performance but don’t really reload
In Texas I don’t have to use a mono , so federal blue 100gr is our best option or Norma whitetail

80 ttsx and the .243 Win. out of a 18" barrel have taken several Blacktail bucks with no issues. All shots within 200 yards so far.

I never used the 85's, but my wife hunted with the 80 TTSX's out of a 243 Win for several years and took a handful of deer and pronghorn. I think the longest shot was only around 240 yds, and it worked well on everything she shot with it.

I have used the 85gr TSX and it worked great. I couldn’t imagine the 80gr TTSX working any better. Maybe at lower velocity the tip helps push the bullet to expand more reliably. My shots were 2500-2700 mostly.
