Modern, short action 7mm

In this day and age of "new" cartridges being introduced all the time, I am surprised that we haven't seen a modern, short action, magnum bolt face 7mm. I'm thinking about something that has an COAL of 2.995" and is optimized for 150 - 170 grain bullets. The 6.8 Western is obviously pretty close, but hasn't caught on and has limited factory support.
Anyone have a guess why this is? The 7mm SAUM has a cult following but no factory support. The .284 Win was pretty versatile but ahead of it's time. 7 mm-08 is pretty awesome but lacks horsepower for heavier bullets. People love the balance of the .280 AI; I suspect it's ballistics could be reproduced in a short fat case.
Obviously there are several great 7s out there, but seems like there is still a hole to be filled. Curious what you have to say, thanks.
Another vote to check out the 7Sherman Short. My 7SS is extremely forgiving and slightly nicer to shoot than my buddies 7prc (similar builds). A true short action cartridge meant for heavy for caliber bullets. 150 monos, 180-195 cup/core work great in this cartridge. Lots of smiths chamber for it, head stamped brass and dies available.

Check out the 7mm SAW at West Texas Ordinance. They have a two different reamers for standard short AICS action/mag ( what I have ) and a longer throat that would need to go in a medium action.
Really like mine.

Being a hand loader, normally I don’t pay attention to loaded ammo, but was curious who still loads 284 win. I was surprised to see Federal has a custom loading option. Maybe it’s been there a decade, but I don’t ever recall it ever coming up in conversation.

I have a feeling with the advent of steel/alloy case ammo were a year or two away from a short 7 that pushes the high BC stuff @ 3k.

Just a guess.

7SAW is on my short list. Thinking about building one this fall.

I've read of some people necking up 6.5 prc to 7mm. Could be a good setup, though I know nothing about it. I like my 284 win and get pretty good performance out of it in my opinion.

7PRCW is 6.5prc necked up to 7mm and has headstamped brass available from ADG.
The 6.5 PRC necked up to 7mm is growing in popularity and seems ripe to me for a SAAMI standard. Hornady already has a “7 PRC” in a larger case, but the could easily call it the “284 RCM”. The 6.5 PRC and 300 RCM share the same case.

The 7 Sherman Short already does that regularly as a true short action. If you want a medium action like the 6.5 PRC or WSM family then the Sherman Max or Mega will get even more velocity.
