Model 70 LA rebarreled to 6.5 creedmoor

With longer higher BC ammo my vote is to not use a spacer. A few of mine that ive swapped from 300win down to 6.5 Creed ive not had any issues (non model 70s)
If I can get it to feed right without then I won’t use one. I’m half tempted to sell the gun now because I’m annoyed with it, but I don’t know how it would sell with the bolt not picking up half the rounds correctly

The Model 70s such a great action but there is not much support for it. Its easy enough to pull the firing pin (unscrew it from the back) then get a few rounds to cycle it. (preferably dummy rounds)

Assuming this is a PRF or is it a CRF action? PRF the round just pops up and is chambered, I dont see how there would be much if any issues but nothing worse than a miss feed when you got a giant in front of you!!!!

Happened to my cousin last year!

It was a mistake on my part to not better investigate this before rebarreling.

It is a CRF action

This isn’t a big deal and easily sorted out with a little experimentation with mag spring pressure. Have you tried stretching the spring out a little for more tension? And/or moving the follower front to back to put the tension where you want it? Then you could even spot weld (or probably even JB weld) or shim the spring to the follower so it stays in just the right spot.

I may need to fiddle with that. The main issue is the 7-08 case is slightly fatter just below the shoulder than the 30-06 case, so as the cases stack against each other it creates more space at the case heads, causing the cases to angle upward slightly (case head moves down) and away from the bolt on the left side. The bolt can’t grab them. If I move the cases forward in the magazine it appears to fix this issue. So I’m looking at a new short action spring and follower and a little spacer to keep the cases forward.

I hear ya. First, stretch out the spring gently. Then where the leaf of the spring slides into the follower, slide the follower front or back (probably back) to generate more pressure at the back of the mag. That should help push the back end of the cases upward more.
