Model 70 classic stainless 30-06 will not group

Mag box binding up? Action screws or scope base screws too long?
This woud be my suggestion. Had both happen before. Front action screw was putting pressure on the bolt. Easy to fix. I like to be be able to open up the floor plate and then move the magbox slightly up and down and back and forth. If not, a little filing/sanding will get it there.

Actually, part of the issue with the mag box “binding” is that it actually fits into the receiver very tightly. I always have to really work it back into the receiver when I reinstall it. So, it is at least bound from the top end

⬆️ what rickyw said. Mag box fits tight into the receiver just make sure there is a slight gap on the bottom where it mates up to the bottom metal.

165 gr. Nosler Accubonds or Partitions
H4350 or IMR4350
56-58 grs. seems to be a sweet spot in there someplace. I've had two 30-06 rifles (Rem 700 & Ruger 1B) that both shot 57.4 grs of IMR4350 using 165 gr. Partitions or Accubonds equally as well.
Federal 210 match primers

You don't mention what you are hunting with it.
My buddies model 70 doesn't like anything heavier than 150 grain. Shoots those 1moa. Everything heavier is around 2 moa.
It's hard to beat a superlite for carrying all day and less than 1k.

Everything from black bear to sheep to moose to grizzly.
That lighter tikka is sounding nice. I could slap my swfa 3-15 on there and with a sling still come in about 8lbs.

Sounds like a tikka slinging 180s is in your future!
I am running a swfa 3-15 on my tikka lite 22-250ai and really like the set up.
I have thought many times about selling my 30/06ai nula and replacing it with a superlite.

Light, solid, mil dots, and no battery for illumination. It quickly became my favorite non- dialing scope and I don't even like 3-9s.

My fwt shoots the Core Lokt Tipped 150s really good.

Couldn’t get Federal Fusions, Norma, or Barnes to shoot out of it. The blue box Federals weren’t too bad though. Averaged about a 1/4” or so bigger group than the Core Lokts

Curious on the manufacturing date of the rifle? I have a 270 in a sporter chassis from the early 2000s that wont group worth a damn. I read the thread and am going to try the middle screw trick, Mine shoots hornady surperperformance around 1.5 moa….

I think it was a pretty late model 70 classic stainless. It has the original trigger and one piece bottom metal but doesn’t say classic stainless on the barrel like my other M70s.
Serial number has 7 digits after the G

Most cartridges I’ve tried superperformance factory ammo in has been 2-3moa. I think your doing just fine.

7rem mag, 243win, 7-08, 308 is what I’ve tried. Only a few boxes for each.
