Mix/Make your own Permethrin Spray - SAVE MONEY

Been doing it for a long time.
Makes great fly and tick repellent for the horses. It bonds to their hair and can last a couple weeks depending on what flys and the current density.
All my woods cut firewood gets sprayed down before going in the trailer, after its split, and when it's stacked in the basement. Known ant infested trees get sprayed down a week or two before they get cut.
Takes out bee, wasp, hornet and ant nests like a charm.
A mist on your clothes keeps the ticks off.
20:1 is a good mix, but you need to adjust for various concentrations (maths).

@BR549

Agree- 20:1 is only a relevant ratio if your starting Permethrin container is a 10% solution. If that is the case, then 20 parts water to 1 part Permethrin is essentially .5% (ie 1/2 of 1% or .005). However, most off the shelf concentrates I've seen at lawn/garden and feed stores are much higher concentrations and therefore would be FAR too strong at that ratio.

You're spot-on regarding the need to re-adjust based on the actual concentration of the Permethrin used.

...just clarifying for those who have never worked with such extreme dilutions.

Best,

JL

I know this thread is about Permethrin which I used for years. It is an excellent product. It is a tick killer. I laugh about Deet which is a repellant. Like a Michigan DNR biologist once told me, "Repels them to some other part of your body".
I went to the anti-tick line of clothing by Game Hide. The long sleeve shirt and pants cost me under $100. Since I started using this combo I can't remember the last time I had a tick on me. You still have to be vigilant, but it sure does knock down my paranoia level. It also seems to work for me on mosquitoes, It won't keep them off your bare skin, but they won't bite through your clothing. The manufacturer also claims it is effect for dozens of washings.
We have a guy in one of our hunting groups that has some kind of nerve disease nobody can seem to cure which they now think was caused by a tick. So it strikes pretty close to home. If this helps somebody then it was worth posting. T

Timely thread popping up to the top of the list. I was just thinking yesterday it's time to treat the outdoor work clothes.

Sadie I don't know what state you're in, but they're bad here in Wisconsin. My paranoia on deer ticks is so bad I have never washed my anti-tick clothes yet. I don't care if they are a little dirty and sweaty and stand up in the corner. I know too many people who have had their quality of life altered by this plague.

We have been hard at it with Turkey season. It’s a bad tick year down here in TX also

pro-tip do the 1-2% calculation instead .5% and you will need to hang it out side for a day, as the 36% solution can have a very strong smell,

Always keep some doxycycline around. If you get a tick bite take it to be safe.

Jase medical isn’t the cheapest but the easiest
