The Kuiu ones are super warm. You can even pull.your boots off and stuff half your foot in there to quickly warm up your toes!

They aren't good.for much besides sitting though, IMO. They have no reinforcement or grip on the palms or fingers so they are pretty much just sleeping bag "skin" and lofty fill. Slippery when it comes to grip and delicate.

Day One makes a good set. I have a wool version with windstopper in ASAT. You have to call and request the no slit feature if I remember right.
To be honest I'm interested in First Lite's Grizzly version.

Late season I go to the chopper mitts. Picked that tip up from Randy Newberg. Not super functional for anything except keeping your fingers warm though.

Past two years I have found that my fingers get painfully uncomfortable in cold. I was moose hunting yesterday and gloves just couldn't cut it. Be wearing mitts from here on in. I have a pair of North Face Kootenais that i use for backcountry skiing will have them on next time I go in.

Hit up your army surplus and look for some trigger finger mittens. Usually they have a wool liner that goes in a shell. They are pretty warm and you can usually pick them up fairly cheap.

These Timberline mittens are extremely warm. I put a grommet in the cuff and hang them from my belt when sitting in a cold treestand. I slip my hand out to shoot my bow.

^^^^This. And yes, they do work very well at warming toes up on those cold mornings.

I've been using the First Lite Grizzly gloves this fall and they have been great on cold early mornings. My fingers are constantly cold these gloves have kept them warm even on predawn four-wheeler rides when it is in the teens.

Would silicone smears improve grip or is the skin too fragile?

I bought leather mittens a little big for me. Waterproofed them by putting oil on and heating them up in the oven. Then put a heavy wool mitten inside. They are warm. But not really functional was anything but sitting there.

I too have had poor experiences with fingerless flip over mittens.

However, these are better. Heavy Dachstein boiled wool. Warm, tough. All around excellent mittens.
