Missoula Elk

I'm new to hunting, I've only been at it for about 5 years. I've successfully taken 4 deer now. 2 with a rifle and 2 with a bow. I have no problem putting in the miles to find elk but.... I just cant seem to find them. I'm not asking for anywhere specific.... Just a unit within 90 miles of Missoula I should focus my attention towards? Any help at all. Thanks in advance.

Hop on 90, take exit 47 I believe, go past the town pump, and find the usfs roads that lead you to the Idaho border that’s not the main drag. I only went the back way a few times this summer to visit family in Montana as it’s faster for me when I’m living in the woods, but I’ve seen my fair share of elk over there in whatever unit that is. Again that main drag is pounded by road hunters same with the other roads.
