Won’t be significantly more than already hunt there now because that area is a busy place, but possibly the few more that are going to hunt there will now be carrying road flares in their packs.

There have been at least a few people commenting in this thread that they were hunting the same drainage on the same day. That alone should tell you how popular it already is. It's not a very big drainage either.

Unlike facecookies, these sites are pretty tolerant of mouthy people. As you well know.

As to your edit. You weren't invited to the shooting competition, I was. And yes, most competition today have a prize table with thousands of dollars worth of prizes that go the the better shooters, I see no problem there. Also, there mega dollars in sponsor's gear and cash. These guns and components are very costly. So why in hell would anyone with the talent and equipment want to shoot for free. If you can shoot your gun as well as you shoot your mouth, bring it.

Not sure where people draw the line with what they will do that is illegal when it suits them. I find it easier to follow all laws possible.

It's also illegal to commit suicide. So pick your poison. If the only options are a fire or die, I'd make a fire.......especially if it just dumped 2" of rain. But on the other hand, I would have already hiked out to the truck by now and would be in my nice warm base camp for the night.

Things became easier to understand when you realize that 60% of the people in this country have less than 7th grade reading comprehension. Well, I received a PM from our fireless friend. Turns out the people killed in his county had nothing to do with fire, it was a car wreck. Seems he is one of these noobs that just likes to join forums and stir up controversy. Heck of an entrance.

To get this back on track, 2 men were killed after being struck by lightening. They did absolutely nothing wrong and seemed to be prepared for the conditions. They were not stupid for being in there as it sounds others were hunting the same area and time frame. RIP young men.

To all half intelligent outdoors men and women, please continue to carry some form of fire starter with you when you venture into the backcountry, even if a fire ban is in place! You do not have to use it, but you never know when the ability to start a fire may save your life.

Man, what a terrifying experience. I feel for the families.

I work in natural resources and i have to enforce fire bans. I would absolutely make a fire to save my own or someone else’s life. I would just be sure it was well contained and dead out upon leaving. The argument that this is for “nature “ is valid in my opinion, but not the reason why fire bans are instituted. The bans are in place to protect resources for human use. Period. If there were no human impact from wildfire we would not care, at least not on a national level.

Last thing; my wife was in our camp trailer when it was struck by lightning. She survived but to this day she does not mess around with thunderstorms. If its on the horizon , she is getting to shelter. I sympathize after seeing her sincerity. Dont mess around with nature folks. We’re not always the kings we think we are.

Holy smokes lets drop the egos. Remember any post on here could be read by family members of the deceased. Lots of speculation here. Lets honor these guys and move forward with positive comments. I imagine they were two "young" guys chasing a big bull right before rhe storm hit. I can only imagine the bull was screaming and they stayed as long as possible. Only the people on this forum know those kind of encounters. The lure of the mountains is it puts us in a vulnerable state. We can pack all the best gear in the world. At the end of the day we are not in control. We walk by faith and not by sight. I encourage all of us with faith or not, say a prayer for those boys. I know I will. If the families read this, know they died together as brothers, doing something that many only dream of doing. Godspeed gentlemen. You did things right.

It’s really disappointing how poorly some people responded here. If not at home I assume everyone commenting was in a place of comfort and safety. None of our friends and families are missing us right now. We could be giving good advice and taking a second look at our gear instead of taking some of the most childish shots I’ve ever seen one here at each other.

This thread inspired a few new threads to discuss some survival strategies and gear, let’s take the conversations over there.

My condolences to the families of these two young men.
