Milo Hanson has passed away

Just read where Milo Hanson has passed. Rip

Many years ago we used to duck hunt in the Prairie pothole region of Central Saskatchewan. Around the bar at night, a couple of guys would claim to know Milo, whether they did or not was anyone’s guess . They were also pretty dismissive of his Buck, insisting that there were “way bigger bucks around.“ it just goes to show that no matter what you do, someone always wants to one up you. Rest in peace Milo.

small men for sure

RIP Milo--you inspired all deer hunters!

He killed that famous buck in 1993, and never saw that record broken in his lifetime. I wonder how much longer it will stand. So hard to find a clean typical whitetail that big.
The record book is about who has the money. And it draws a lot of bad people to hunting.

Milo Hansen didn’t have the “money”

And a lot of good comes out of the conservation efforts of record book organizations. From increasing animal numbers to preserving political rights to hunt.

If there was no (monetary) value to wildlife then there wouldn’t be hardly any left. All hunters (whether they support record book orgs or not) benefit from those efforts.

Yes money can bring out bad behavior but much more good comes out than any personal ego or jealousy can destroy.

The thing I love about the old records is these guys were just regular joes hunting in plaid and blue jeans not the social media influencers. RIP
