00 F450 that I got with 200,000 on it for $2500 with no rust and a flat bed 5 or six years ago. Only thing I did to it was add a tipper for $2500, and a set of rear tires. Now it has 250,000, probably one of the best deals on trucks I will ever get:)!

2001 F350 is at 240K.

If you tow, definitely recommend changing the transmission cooler. The stock cooler in the 7.3L is tiny and you'll overheat the transmission very easily. A 6.0L cooler works great. Lots of write-ups/videos on how to do this yourself.

sold it with almost 450,000

cam position sensor and 10mm wrench
icp sensor
swap out the glow plug relay for a HD version
get a block heater if it doesn't have one
NEVER trust a fuel station to have treated winter fuel, treat your own
change fuel filter every 15k, debris will fubar the pressure regulator spring attached to the bowl (fuel pressure regulator valve).

I sold a 2000 Lariat with only 13k miles on it from the three years we were there, for more than I paid for it when we left Iceland in 2002. At the time, it was the only Super Duty on the Island. And diesel was 1/3 the cost of gasoline. They love their diesels, for good reason.

My 2001 has somewhere around 250k miles on it. I bought it with 122k miles in 2008 for just over 10k when diesel was $5/gal. It's an F-350 4x4 crew cab long bed XLT with manual 6spd and manual transfer (those two were mandatory for me).

When I got it I replaced the air intake system with their AIS air induction kit. Replaced the leaky up-pipes with the IH bellowed pipe kit, and all new quality intercooler and engine boots at the same time. Changed the truck over to long life ELC coolant and replaced the water pump, all hoses, and serpentine belt. Also, new brakes, rotors, and ball joints. All I've done since is regular maintenance....fluids and filters......and new glow plugs and harnesses a couple years ago. These trucks really are easy to work on.

I didn't have any rust on mine until I had a run-in with a Walmart shopping cart a couple years ago. It was one of the tall carts that came out of nowhere and rolled into me. I figured the truck would just push it out of the way so kept going. Nope. Somehow it got knocked down and then sucked under the truck and the rear wheel. No big deal......it will squash and that will be that. Nope. It got stuck and I had to back up to get it unstuck. In that whole process it did a number on the truck between the right rear wheel and the right rear door, bending it up and digging deep into the paint in many places. The worst part.......that cart didn't even have a scratch on it, let alone a bend. Must be made out of some new indestructible alloy.......SMH.

Once I installed gauges, it was shocking to see how quickly the tranny temps climbed under load (hill climbs). Installing the 6.0L cooler will keep the temps very stable.

Gauges for engine and trans temps will save your motor and trans IMO. Without them I'd have overheated both on numerous occasions and never had a clue.

I'm somewhere around 280k on my 01. 500k on a PSD is just broken in lol. they can get a mil no problem.
when you start getting to 300K you may need injectors, depends on the year. around 500 you may want to look at the HPOP. besides what's been mentioned, waste gate actuator, glow plug system, valve cover gaskets and oil pan also should be checked periodically. upgrades to fuel and oil system/xover are a good idea also.
susp. wise, yeah they eat parts if you run em. not as bad as a doge but you will be changing parts.
also, 2 common issues are alt. and gas pedal. if the truck starts acting up or throwing trans codes look at those 2 things first.

Change the oil and dont run them out of fuel, and the injectors will last a long time. Usually do fuel filter same time every year.

See so many of these lately with 300+k with good running original injectors. Injector life got alot better when they got rid of the dual tanks.

Looked at one recently with 560k. original injectors, and hard to believe but untouched 4r100...

This…. Did this when I got a 2000 7.3 a number of years ago. Although I didnt tow much, it reduced the temps quite a bit.

Sold mine a few years ago with 275k and it was still running strong.
