Just a quick post. Out of curiosity, has anyone been reloading with Remington’s new Core Lokt Tipped bullets? Are they rebranded SST’s?I ordered some 30 cal 150gr factory seconds from Midway thinking they would be Hornady SST’s (they usually are), but the ones I received had green tips. Not sure if that is what makes it a second, or if it was maybe some of the new Remington. They look really similar to SST’s, but are a little longer. I’m not sure if there is a relationship between the two, but we will find out soon if they shoot the same as SST’s.

Midway has nosler, sierra and hornady seconds. Those may be Nosler ballistic tips.

Those kinda like Sierras to me. Upon further inspection, I'd say those are BTs from Nosler though. What are you going to load them for?

At one time, Remingtons accutip was an sst with a different colored tip. I’m not sure about these but it’s possible they’re sst.

Just a reference….

It’s possible, but there is a cannelure in the same spot as the hornady SST’s. That’s why I sort of ruled out sierra TGK and nosier BT.

I loaded some 30-06 with a medium charge of Big Game. Loading to the cannelure gives me a good COL. My ‘06 is usually a backup rifle at the camp for whitetails and hogs. I plan to chrono them and compare POI with some SST’s I have loaded already.

Sometimes ammo manufacturers order a bullet with a cannelure where the reloading components have none. I've got hundreds of accubonds from shooters pro shop with cannelure.
Lucky for you they're all the same class of bullet, so Long as they shoot for you they'll get the job done.

I had gotten some seconds once and the ogives were diff. Never again for hunting bullets.
How? Seconds are cosmetic blems, not manufacturer failures.

Not always. I bought some thru Grafs once and several were missing the lead cores.
So in a box of say 150 grain lead core bullets some weighed 70 grains and were just a copper jacket? Seems suspect any mfg would stoop that low. In modern seconds through shooters pro shop/midway et el your buying cosmetic blems, overruns and canceled orders with cannelures etc.

These were 80 grain 243/6mm bullets. I forget how many packs I bought but probably had 50 with no lead cores. I may still have some and if I do I’ll send a pic once I’m in the loading room.

I do agree with sps and midway, I’ve yet to find anything like I experienced with Grafs. The worst I had were a couple tips that fell out of some eldx I bought.

Not always. They also come from when the machines are set up and calibrated.
Those are sold as overruns- a second is a bullet that made its way through to inspection and failed a cosmetic inspection.

I bought 1k 77tmk's 2nd's this year , 25% had to be scrapped right away due to deformation. Ogive was horribly inconsistent also, leaving about 30-40% as good enough for accuracy. Useable bullets ended up costing more than new price not inculding my time sorting. Buy 2nd's at your own risk if you are hoping for consistency.16592331592003795711456895987609.jpg

I've had good luck with seconds .277 & .264. Both were SST's, but had a green tip instead of red. Definitely nothing like the examples above...

Well, somehow i managed to get well known bullets with differing ogives. Thus i dont buy the cheap versions of the expensive bullets no more.

Not that i dont want to believe you, my experience says otherwise.

To be clear, I have ordered Midway Seconds about 5 times and had good luck each time. Mostly I have received SST’s with cosmetic blems. I recently bought some that were .355 165g FTX. I have been measuring them as I reload them in my .350 legend, but haven’t found an imperfection yet. The green tips just threw me off a little bit on this recent batch.

Watching soccer and weighing seconds I received last week
400 - .22 cal 50gr varmit orange polymer tips almost all +/- 0.1gr of 50gr, none >.3gr off
400 - .264 cal 143gr red tips - quite a bit of variability 0.5 under to 0.5 over 143gr, 25 at 141 gr, 2 broken tip
200- .308 168gr green tip (guessing tmks) all within 0.1gr +/- of 168gr
