Might seem a bit odd considering the handle but wondering what you guys recommend for a 500$ all up setup.

Wanting it to hunt lanai axis and otc Arizona deer this winter.

My 2009 bow got stolen in 2014 so I'm a bit behind.

If you recommend used please cite specific models.

My rig is a 2012 Hoyt Rampage XT, Montana Black Gold Ascent Sight, Ultra Rest HD. It's accurate, fast enough and I just killed a cow elk with it two weeks ago. Should be under $500 for all of that if you shop right.

Honestly I would look in the buy and sells on this and other hunting forums. I have got a few different buddies into archery and I was able to find them top of the line bows for that year, somewhere from 3-5 years old for around that $500 mark. That's Canadian so really its like 5 dollars American. haha.

Disclaimer, I would only buy a used bow that you can get your hands on firs to make sure its in good condition.

hope that help, sorry about your old bow.

You could probably look around and find an older Mathews for that much. You can still get parts so if you needed a new Cam to change the draw they’re available. Look for a Switchback or a Switchback XT. Or even an outback. All can be had in that price range and are still awesome bows.

Craigslist is your friend amazing how many people put $1500 plus into a bow with accessories and sell it 2 years later for $500 all set up ready to go. I think most would agree nothing groundbreaking has happened to bows in the last 4 years just minor improvements.

Definitely go used flagship over new budget bow. Lots of 3-5 year old top of the line bows loaded go for around $500. Just don't compromise on draw length (get the exact right one) and check the condition of the strings and cables.

Honestly there are a lot more efficient and IMO better bows then those older mathews. I had a switchback for a long time, but i wouldnt go back to one by choice. Mathews also tend to hold their value the best, so they are normally priced higher then other bows of the same age. My .02 on mathews, having owned at least a half dozen over the last 15 years.

I would seriously look at bowtech or PSE. Both have rotating mods on most of their models and the bowtechs in particular are super easy to tune. I had 2 different bowtech Experiences and thats a great bow IMO. I liked it just as much as the newer Prodigy and Reigns i had. Rotating mods and a 335 Ibo i think. You could definitely find one setup for around $500.

Went with a Craigslist deal.

Hoyt spyder 30 xt

Skb roller case

12 Easton arrows (blood something)

Spot hogg 5 pin (can be illuminated)

Spot hogg release.. whippersnapper I think.

Probably paid a bit dear but everything is minty.

Thanks for the replies. That bowtech sounds like an unreal deal. Kinda got in a hurry with opening day at the end of the month.
