Mid August vs Mid September

Hi there, archery mule deer is new to me. I drew a great Controlled tag for Mid west Idaho and the season runs August 15-September 30th.

I am planning on putting in two trips. My gut says hunt the opener because only 25 people will be hunting it. Down side is the heat.

Is there a big difference in hunting mid August vs mid September for bucks?

Definitely go August. First week of September can be good but it usually just gets tougher after that. Considered avoiding opening weekend if there are a lot of tags to avoid having your stalks ruined by other guys

Keep in mind that starting August 30 its going to be a complete zoo with OTC archery elk hunters and bear hunters running hounds.

I'd be hunting hard as early as you can. Once they start getting some pressure and rubbing velvet they'll dissapear pretty quick and be much harder to find.
