Micro diameter for Trad

So I recently acquired some 340 GT kinetic pierce from a trade with a friend. They're full length still and I already ordered some ethics archery components for the front. Pretty sure I can lighten up my total arrow weight considerably and still achieve the same penetration. (Currently shooting Victory carbon reads)

Just wondering what kind of experience you guys have shooting micros through a traditional set up. Any more difficult to tune than anything else? Difficulty getting feathers to stick on? No matter what, I am going to stick with my current arrow set up for the rest of the season.

I shot the micros for many years decades ago when I was sponsored by Beman, my take;

The shafts are great but the components make them a PITA. Not worth the hassle.

5mm is perfect and you can use internal components. When it comes right down to it tho, not a heck of a lot of difference between 6mm and the others….a little bit better in a strong crosswind at long range is the only advantage.

This is the exact input I'm looking for. I'm mostly hunting whitetails, so it's not like I'm really bombing shots out there anyways. I like my current set up with exception to my component durability. I noticed the inserts bend pretty frequently. But that is with just the stock inserts

I run micros in one of my setups. I had no problem fletching them with a 4 fletch straight clamp on my bitzenburger. I went with the ethics archery insert outsert and really liked them.

Just check your center shot. You don't want to fall inside center

I love them! Been shooting Victory Vap for several years and some Black Eagle Instincts, if I can find a micro that tunes I'll shoot them, if I can't I'll try to get the next size up, haven't had any issues with fletching but I haven't used anything longer than 3" on them. I think they're several advantages over standard diameters, wind resistance, thicker side wall etc.

Victory VAP Elites x 2 years. Completely amazed by the penetration advantages over the woods I was shooting. I still love wood arrows and will use them again, but right now the small diameter carbons are what I'm shooting. I used wraps to be sure I got good fletch adhesion...zero problems there. I chose Valkyrie components (Centerpin Sleeve and Centerpin Broadhead Adapter) which I really like. The sleeves (an inside-out-sert thing) were kind of weird for me to get used to, but no worries. The only broken shafts I've experienced have been from animals falling dead on them.

Maybe the best thing for me is how beautifully they fly out of my longbow. No wiggle and no kick....just perfect flight.

I haven’t tried any micros yet but have been using the 5mm for a few years now and really like them. The availability/ease of components for that size is a winner for me.

I’ve used them for a while and had zero issues. I’ve switched to Sitka spruce and prefer the woodies out of my longbow.

I'm sure they'll work fine. I went with Valkyrie ONLY because I was 105% ignorant of how to quickly get the setup I needed. I was guided by a friend and noted bowyer who gave me all the inside dope on his arrow setup. All I needed to do was adjust shaft length and decide on component weights. I literally started with nothing on October 1st and was killing deer with them by the 20th. I love seeing a broadhead arrow come out of the longbow perfectly clean without a hint of wobble.

By the way, I used Goat Tuff black (rubberized) adhesive on my outserts. I fletched with regular Goat Tuff adhesive using feathers. Brent Hahn at Valkyrie gave me some additional useful data points while trying to sell me his broadheads....which I steadfastly refused to buy.

I bought the Valkyrie Blood Eagles and am continually very impressed with them, are kind a bitch to sharpen though, even with their sharpening system, but man they penetrate and make a good hole!
I had a similar route to the Victory VAPS, Valkyrie had sent some of their arrow setups to rmsgear and I shot one and was amazed how clean the flight was, really was like shooting a laser!

I shoot Easton 5mm fmj’s off my new longbow. I haven’t completely decided on components yet. I really like Kudu broad heads. I may go with Ironwill 100 grain steel inserts and a 150 grain Kudu broadhead. Other option is a 75 grain insert and 150 gr broadhead. I can get both to tune just fine.

Maybe someday I'll pony up and get some Ironwill heads. But for right now I have either 175grn grizzly's or 125grn VPA 3 blades to pick from. I think with the adjustable insert system I can make something work.

I went from shooting woodies for 20 years out of ASLs and mild R/D longbows to using carbons when I switched to a recurve.
It took me awhile to warm up to micros, but they do perform well for me. I am currently working up a batch of Widowmakers and they fly quite nicely. Next, I will give Day Six a go. Their insert/outsert system is well made and should give me a solid platform to hunt with.
I use 3x4"feathers and have no issue gluing them on a simple white or yellow wrap.
Still undecided on the broadheads: Iron Will and Day Six are at the top of the list, but two-blade VPAs would be a cheaper option for boars.

I shoot day six arrows. They are excellent, they tune like any other arrow, and no problem fletching with 4” feathers on a bitzeburger jig. Excellent arrows IMO, take a touch more work to make sure the outsert/insert spins true but overall 9.5/10.

Have you checked out the new VAP SS? I like the sound of them but I have so many of the standard VAP, it might be a while.

No, and really not interested in taking my micro-diameter experiment any further. The only thing I'd consider at this point would be to maybe add more weight to the shaft....maybe 100-200 grains.

Well, I got my components yesterday and glued them in last night. I'll try to get these arrows tuned this weekend and see where it takes me

I bought me some micros to try out. I went with the black eagle instinct trad 400s 30.5 bop stainless 100 grain outsert and kept my 150 grain tip weight with three inch shields. They shoot really well. Very impressed my them. I needed an arrow setup for longer than 15-20 yards. Pretty flat trajectory so far. They are about 75 grains lighter than my Cx heritage 250 set up and not as dark. I wish they were darker in color. Digging up he idea of the outsert vs insert. Seems like it would be stronger than the brass 100s.
