Looking for some first hand experience. Not too worried but just wanna have an idea.

Flying to Sonora on Wednesday for a hunt taking my own rifle and ammo.

How was it dealing with MX customs? If you took rifle and ammo, did you have your ammo in a separate checked bag? Or locked in the rifle case?

Hunted Mexico last year. Very easy. Have all of your paperwork ready. There is a little paperwork to do before getting it checked ( bring your own pen) . I had my ammo in my checked bag and it was never inspected.

Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

I was just there, but hunted archery. We flew into Hermosillo. A buddy that went with planned to take his rifle. But ultimately didn’t because there was paperwork he needed to have done a month or so ahead of time from what he was told. He ended up using one of their rifles.

Let us know how it goes. The guys I know drive down out of Douglas. They do well and enjoyed their hunts.

I'm not too sure about the details of what you're doing. A good friend was there last year on a guided Turkey hunting. Middle of nowhere. He got pulled over by a group of armed bandits. They stole his guides' vehicle and the majority of his gear. At one point, there was a young teenager with an AR-15 passed against the back of my buddies head. He had to walk 5ish miles to the first house. Said it was the happiest walk of his life.

I was considering guiding some mule deer hunts down there, the outfitter I was going to work for got robbed, took his truck and all gear at gun point!

I passed on that trip!

Living in south Texas, listening and reading the local news from across the river can’t imagine why anyone would do anything in the border states of Mexico aside from Baja although there are issues there as well. Friend who is a rancher in south Texas drove his truck across at Nuevo Laredo, was searched and found a single centerfire round in his toolbox, spent 3 months in a jail for importing military equipment before money and a mexican lawyer got him sprung. No thanks

I’ll be flying and have an import permit for firearm and bullets so I “should” be good to go. 😂

I live in south Texas as well and would never cross any of my vehicles for risk of bullets in them, plus I rarely go over anymore.
