Looking to go on a Merriam Hunt. But I’m not sure which state to go to. Thinking Colorado or Nebraska. Will be DIY most likely and on Gameland. Any help, tips or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do not mind camping.

What state are you from? That might help narrow down your choices. There's tons of good turkey opportunities across the US.

If you come hunt them in California you can hunt them and rio grandes on the same day and don’t need to buy turkey tags

I’m headed to Nebraska for the first time this year after meriams. Would be up for exchanging info as the hunt unfolds. We can let you know if we find birds and vice versa. We have a general idea of location but no specific spots yet.

As a colorado res, I’d suggest you go to another state. Wyoming, Nebraska, or South Dakota. Not trying to steer you away from my spots either. Hunted turkeys in CO for a couple years before last and had a ball. Last year people needed a “qualifying license” for big game applications and previously quiet spots became loaded with people who bought a mouth call at cabelas last week. Most didn’t hike in far but it was too busy for my taste.

Colorado turkey hunting is far from worthwhile to travel for. Northwest Nebraska or the Black Hills of South Dakota or Wyoming would be much more sensible. Buy three tags for Nebraska or grab one for each SD/WY.

If it's an apples-to-apples comparison I wouldn't travel far to hunt Colorado. I will be heading to Nebraska this year but I will be after hybrids.

I've taken birds in both the Black Hills of SD and Pine Ridge of NE. Hands down SD > NE. No experience in CO though.
