Can someone recommend some great merino wool underwear? I prefer briefs, not boxers, cause I am not a big fan of a wedgie half way up a mountain. Any recommendations?

I like first lite and the old core4 (think core4 is no longer 100% merino).

if you want a longer and thicker pair try firstlite

for regular length brief I like REI Smartwool. I also have the C4E and they don't fit well for me compared to the other two.

ice breaker 150 boxer brief with fly, best i have ever used. no smell after days and do not ride up. i stick my nose right in there to test smells and these are no b.s..... i am a 32 and wear a size small.

I've been wearing the First Lite ones for a few years and it seemed the older versions would wear thin in the high pressure areas after some considerable use. The few pairs that I ordered about 3 months ago have been holding up great (I wear them everyday) and I do not see any issues with them wearing thin. You can tell they are much stronger in that regard. Very comfortable and not as tight fitting or restrictive as the Icebreaker or Minus 33 that I have used.

First Lite are very good. Red Ram (Icebreaker) are also very good and a much better deal from Sierra Trading Post with an additional coupon code. The old C4E that are 100% merino stretched out poorly and formed holes.

I'm just curious as to why you are limiting yourself to merino? Saxx makes a bamboo boxer brief that seems to be a lot more durable than any merino gounch that I've worn. They have a sewn in pouch that holds your junk in place and prevents chaffing. The bamboo blend controls odour and for extended wearing on back pack hunts you can't beat them at $25 a pop.

I got some stoic merino ones on sale from backcountry.com earlier this spring, so far no complaints.

I know what you mean about briefs being better for the "no-wedgie" effect, but I found First Lite's Red Desert boxer were just fine. They are snug enough that they form fit.

Greyghost x2^^ I have several pairs and no complaints. No swamp butt or wedgies either. I have one pair of icebreaker boxer briefs and they ride up. I'm a 35 waist and wear a size L

I have a few pairs of Core4's and they are ok due to stretching out over time. I'm not a fan of synthetics at all. I've looked at Saxx but not tried them. I picked up my Icebreaker 150 briefs off of SteepandCheap for ~$15/pr.

If you want a boxer brief the FirtLites are the way to go if you can stomach the price.
