Meopta still in business?

I heard they closed the US operation. I have a pair I have worked on, and I sent them to Mountain Optics in Cali. But to answer your question there US store in no longer.
How was the price? I’ve got an S2 that the locking pin for the eyepiece won’t come out and I don’t really want to send it all the way to Europe right now.

I’m a big fan of there Meostar scopes. I’ve got several big name scopes Swarovski, Leica and Schmidt, and truthfully they hang in there with all the big boys and half the price. Hopefully they will reopen!!!

I don't know the answer, but I believe I remember that CLNY was going to put them on hold until they got settled with whatever changes they are going through. It seems like I read that, and their website has Meopta listed but nothing Meopta for sale. I hope Meopta gets it figured out because I think they have a lot to offer.

I recently read where Meopta is doing a German Precision Optics (GPO) move. Asian assembly with QC in Czech. I love my Meopros and am disappointed with this move.

If the “Asian assembly” is Japan then that’s a good thing. If it’s china or other, no bueno.

It is probably like others…most will be in China, a few models in the Philippines and maybe one in Japan if we are lucky.

Not conjecture. Meopta was confirmed by CL and Zeiss has put out a statement about it. The Optika 5 and 6 series were already Chinese, according to CL.

This did not sound like information I found, so decided to do some more digging. I'm not saying you are incorrect, just saying I could not find that same information.

The 'blue" texts are cut and pasted from the Internet. The sources listed all said roughly the same thing. No information was gathered from forums, only from online magazines. There was posted information from Meopta in some forums, and they did reiterate what is written below, but chose not to include these as a source.

The "Asian made" may be where some of the "made in China" comes from. You will note this in the second question/answer.

Below is a very brief summary. The links are not included, just the source.

Query: Where are Meopta Optika6 and Optika5 rifle scope lenses made?
Answer: The Meopta Optika6 and Optika5 rifle scope lenses are primarily made in the Czech Republic. While the production of the lenses is done in the Czech Republic, some models, such as the MeoPro series, may have parts assembled in the United States. 1 2

Query: Where are Meopta Optika6 and Optika5 rifle scopes made?
Answer: Meopta Optika6 and Optika5 rifle scopes are assembled in the Czech Republic at their main factory in Prerov. However, individual components for these scopes, particularly those in the more affordable lines, are sourced from Asia, according to Optics Trade. This strategy allows Meopta to manage production costs while maintaining high quality standards. 3

“Almost all the work on Meopta products happens right here.”
(Prerov, Czech Republic) Meopta doesn’t make plastic or rubber parts. It outsources only “universal” hardware: small screws, pins and washers. 4

Edit: I guess if you click on the first blue text it does bring you to the full article. In it the article mentions Vietnam and the Philippines as the Asian countries manufacturing parts, and then later says parts for the Optika6 and Optika5 scopes are from Asia.

I'm going by what Doug from Cameraland said in a similar thread over on 24 campfire. The new lines will be designed in Czech, assembled in China and QC'd in Czech. Someone said something about buying all the Optika 5 and 6 scopes that are in the states now, and Doug said those were made in China too. He deals with Meopta, so I'll take his information as good.

Meopta has some good stuff, no doubt. However, there is no service and it’s been that way for a long time. I tried multiple outlets with no success in contacting them and was told by people in the optics industry that is the norm for Meopta. Again, good stuff but my money will go elsewhere.

Seems like bad news for us as hunters and shooters in general. First bushnell, now meopta and zeiss both changing manufacturing strategy because of restructuring. I was just looking at a meopta spotting scope, but the uncertainty of service/warranty leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
