I want a new set of binoculars in the $500 range to be used for western big game hunting. In my search I have found these two sets that have good reviews and are similar in price. I’m not able to compare them without just purchasing both, so I am posting here to ask for opinions.

Meopta Meopro HD 10X42

Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide HD 10x42

Following.

I´ve heard people say the BX-4 compares favorably to the Razor HD and Conquest. I know Doug from Cameraland always sings the praises of the Meopro.

The options in the $500-600 range these days are getting really good.

I think the BX-4 might be made by Kamakura in Japan. They make a lot of the better known models in the $1K range.

I have looked through Meopro and the BX-4’s; I have the BX-4 in 8x42.

The Meopro probably felt like it was built a little better, but I prefer the view out of the Leupold’s.

If you can find a used Meostar, I’d go with those though. I’m a big Meopta fan, but wasn’t that impressed with the Meopro.

Thanks Hoodie. You're right, there are several good binos in this price range which is great, but also makes it a bit more difficult to choose just one.

Thank you for the Kowa BD II suggestion Doug.
FOV is not the only thing to consider, but an interesting comparison.

FOV 10x models...
Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide HD 10x42 FOV- 326' @ 1000y
Meopta Meopro HD 10x42 FOV- 351' @ 1000y
Kowa BD II 10x42 Wide Angle XD FOV- 378' @ 1000y

Just for comparison.
Meopta MeoStar B1.1 10x42 HD FOV- 331' @ 1000y

And for fun, the FOV 8x models...
Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide HD 8x42 FOV- 368' @ 1000y
Meopta Meopro HD 8x42 FOV- 377' @ 1000y
Kowa BD II 8x42 Wide Angle XD FOV- 429' @ 1000y

IMO hard to beat the BX-4 in that price range
