Hey everyone,

I am in need of some help. I currently own a McMillan A3 in .300 win mag that I built out and will be posting on here for sale if anyone is interested.

I am actually looking to build a custom bolt action rifle in memory of my older brother who passed away this past January. He got me into hunting, shooting and all things 2A, so I figured one way I could honor him is by building out a rifle with a custom serial number in his honor, along with engraving some words he wrote to me before he passed onto my stock.

I have settled in on a Defiance Ruckus action in its lightest form with anti x cuts etc, proof sendero 24 in barrel, 7mm PRC, but I am stuck on the stock portion of it all.

My A3 currently does not let me get in on it without building up the cheekpad quite a bit to see through my NX8 4-32x50mm.

I am hoping to build out a rifle that doesn't need a cheek weld built up, and would prefer to get one that isn't adjustable (though not entirely opposed). I utilize the cheekbone of my face when shooting in the prone and would like to keep this rifle pretty light in order to hunt and backpack with it so that my brother can be with me on every trip, in spirit.

Does anyone have a way to measure this out or can suggest stock/stocks that would allow me to get in on the gun without this issue?

Also, any vendors or anyone who can offer more than solely their information, I would truly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance and God bless

I have been spending more and more time behind my McMillan Mountain Tracker LR stock and I am liking it a lot. Whether shooting from seated, kneeling, or prone, I have no problem getting into the gun or scope.

One of these days I will get a RokStock to see how they compare, but for now, it is quickly becoming my favorite stock.

Smaller scope objective will let you mount it lower to the action. What scope are you planning for the build?

Also, I thought the A3 was already adjustable for comb height? If not, McMillan has a ton of stocks with the adjustable comb that would work.

A3-5 perhaps?

Thank you guys for the feedback and so quickly!
Yeah I am trying to avoid an adjustable cheek piece and I was checking out the McMillan mountain tracker LR but the stock just looks so goofy to me. Obviously this is a tool, but also want to ensure that it looks as appealing to the eye as possible.

The manners pro hunter adjustable is for sure on my watchlist.

As it relates to the objective lens, and scope, I was hoping to use my nx8 but also open to suggestions that you guys think would be a good fit.

The Adjustable cheek is super simple & lightweight, & solid.

Folding mechanism is Rock solid.

Mini chassis is nice, rails, flush cups, well made fit & finish…… with Swamp Color it’s Perfect !!

I do not have any input to the rifle build but wish you well on this endeavor. Sorry for your loss. Best of luck this coming season!

Agree 100%
Good brothers are hard to come by.I think honoring him with a rifle build is a great thing to do
I truly appreciate it, he was the best.

Does anyone know if you can laser engrave a manners stock? looking to get one of the last "love you, your big bro" engraved with his hand writing someone on the stock.

what's your Ring height and bolt throw degree? hoping to do a 90 degree with the nx8 but don't want to have to use rings higher than need to
